Lots of theories on shooting - and experts who can go into details on these things - but here is mine:
1 - shoot a ton of shots
2 - shoot it straight
3 - notice and correct your misses (right? left? long? short?)
4 - shoot until it’s right

Amen! It is always worth it. I have witnessed over & over again that it is a Universal Truth that hard work pays off. It is not always in the way you wanted or envisioned, but it happens. It will lead to something, which could end up exceeding your original vision. It happens.

It is a harsh reality that we are judged by our results and not by our efforts. You can study hard and still get a C. You can work on your game and still not get much playing time. Regardless, your best effort is always worth it as you learn so much about yourself along the way.
