Sorry, I typed too soon about Kitt Peak CDD status. The CD shutter has failed, for reasons including quite a large moth lodged in the blades. Cleaning/lubrication didn't help; replacement is being sought. For now, the spectrograph and guider are available.

Live Astronomy from @DragonCon 2023: after a panel talked about the captured planet in the globular cluster M4, it was too low, but we could reach its cluster cousin M22 in Sagittarius with @SARA_Obs JKT at La Palma. Red giants really stand out in brightness + color. BVR filters.

Chilean telescope of @SARA_Obs is currently unreachable, as a result of actions taken by @NOAOSouth following cyber attack, presumably the same one which affected @GeminiObs . So much for the "wild west" days of the Internet being behind us.

Hey, La Palma telescopes are open after the wildfire! I can resume studies of EELRs and fading AGN with the @SARA_Obs Kapteyn telescope!

We now expect this to apply also to our telescope at Kitt Peak for some time after scheduled reopening next week, as @NOIRLabAstro makes sure the attack is understood and a repeat is protected against.

Observatories on La Palma have been evacuated due to wildfire at Puntagorda to the west. Telescopes not in immediate danger, but staff is being cautious because there are few escape routes.
