Super excited to share our study led by @Eeekology in @Nature where we found that animal herbivores prefer to eat nitrogen-fixing trees. This presents a major cost, constraining nitrogen-fixing species in tropical forests.

Plants are powerful -- the geographical range of plants influenced long-term climate. Fun study to be involved in led by @KhushGr with @bjwmills & @KatieField4
The geographic spread of plants drove ancient #ClimateChange by modifying continental #weathering & #carbon burial rates. @KhushGr, @bjwmills, @palaeoleeds @KatieField4 investigate this effect using a new coupled #VegetationModel nature.com/articles/s41467-0…

Do herbivores prefer nitrogen-fixing plants over non-nitrogen-fixing plants? The answer might help to explain the limited nitrogen availability on land go.nature.com/3hwun32

Herbivory costs drive the scarcity of nitrogen-fixing tropical trees.
N-fixers are preferentially hit by herbivores, potentially limiting the tropical carbon sink.

The work of amazing researchers like @KateClancy has shown that ~64% of field researchers report harassment while in the field, and 22% —ONE IN FIVE-- report assault. Sexual misconduct is pervasive and systemic in fieldwork.

As a community we need to do better so that the next generation of women scientists don’t have to go through this! buzzfeednews.com/article/nis…
By the way, it was ten years ago to this day I was sexually assaulted at the @theAGU meeting in San Francisco by a @Smithsonian scientist. Institutions must finally #BelieveSurvivors so no other woman feels she has no choice but stay silent for so long again. #JustLetMeDoScience
I'm so proud of the women who joined me in speaking out about their experiences of sexual harassment and sexual assault. So many women are survivors, and it holds women in the sciences back. #MeToo #STEMToo #WomenInSTEM @ksinacore @Tana_TropicsGal @MegCrofoot @eddyer96

This is an important read for anyone in academia. Current systems at @stri_panama permit the abuse of power - including assault, harassment, and retaliation - directed primarily at young women scientists. We need substantive reform
