Screw it, I'm saying it here too cause I think it should be said more: I DO want my story to feel like an edgy power fantasy. Power fantasies are fucking awesome. One of the biggest media franchises in the world is Dragon Ball Z, which is the biggest power fantasy ever. Tell me no one as a kid wanted to shoot Kamehameha's or pretend to be a Super Saiyan. We watch media precisely BECAUSE they are escapist fantasies to immerse ourselves in. Why the hell would I want my story to be some weepy ass non-power fantasy? To be "realistic"? Where's the fun in that? Everyone in my story is miserable, that makes it "mature" and compelling? I want my story to be fun. I want the people who watch or read it to think "Wow that looks cool/fun.". I want people to look at my story and think "Wouldn't it be cool if I could do that?". I want people to watch it and have a good time, that is the BIGGEST reason I do anything. When I watched pokemon, I wanted to be Ash. When I watched Digimon, I wanted to be Tai. When I watched DBZ, I wanted to be Goku. Power fantasies rule and ain't nobody gonna tell me otherwise.
