“Be responsible for your own self determination, that’s accountability.” Great players understand that being coached is an opportunity. Getting better is a responsibility.

How often do we let yesterday get in the way of tomorrow? Love this from Jameis Winston: “Forget what’s behind and press forward to what’s ahead.” We’ve all made mistakes. We’ve all had setbacks. Learn from them, but don’t let them hold you back. Keep moving forward.🔥

Want to win once? Set a goal. Want to win consistently? Build process and standards. Bob Chesney nailed it: “I think goals are for people who want to win once. I think processing standards are for people that want to win long-term.” Goals give you direction. Standards drive your daily behavior. That’s how winning cultures are built.
Bob Chesney explains why “goals” aren’t as important as “process and standards” at UCLA

One of the biggest mistakes we make is measuring our success against someone else’s. Katie Ledecky nails it: “You don’t have to win the race. You just have to win your race.” Focus on your growth. Your progress. Your journey.

Pat Murphy uses climbing a mountain to explain how he wants his team to handle getting closer to its goal. “As you get closer, you just got to keep your footing…you can’t look too far ahead. When you look up for the prize…you might step in a crack or a pothole.” Getting close to a goal can pull a team away from the very things that put it within reach. Players start pressing. Coaches feel compelled to say more. Everyone wants to make something happen. Part of leading in those moments is helping people trust the work they’ve done and stay connected to what the next play (and moment) requires. Keep the goal in view and the next step in focus. 🎥: NLCS Press Conference

I once introduced Ditka at a charity event in Calgary. In the intro I told him we'd have had more people there but he'd traded away 12 of them for Ricky Williams. He laughed and said, Smart Ass. His entire speech was scribbled on a single sheet of paper with swirls and dashes and arrows pointing all over the place. When he spoke he was succint. "If you want to fail, no one will get in your way. They'll hold the door open for you. " But if you want to achieve "you'll have the wind in your face all the time. It's hard work keeping going. But understand that the resistance is the sign that you're achieving." RIP Iron Mike
Whether on the football field or the golf course, he demanded accountability. Rest in peace, Mike Ditka.

The amount of Amazon workers relying on SNAP and Medicaid has nearly TRIPLED since 2020. Meanwhile, Amazon's profits have soared by 550% in the same time frame. Watch this before you shop for Prime Day.

This is insane... Whitney Webb exposes the history of Palantir. Palantir started as a DARPA project. It was going to completely destroy our constitutional protections so it was quietly taken out of government and rebranded as a private company to do the EXACT same thing.

10 years ago today GOP Sen. Mike Lee: “If anyone spoke to my wife, or my daughter, or my mother, or any of my five sisters, the way Mr. Trump has spoken to women, I wouldn’t hire that person, wouldn’t want to be associated with that person, and I certainly don’t think I’d be comfortable hiring that person to be the leader of the free world.”

I say this as a serious Christian who has two seminary degrees and studies the Bible regularly: These people are nuts, and they bring shame on the cause of Christ.
MAGA cultist and self-proclaimed "prophet" Hank Kunneman calls on God to "shatter the agenda of hell" in the midterms: "We lift up a rod of authority like Moses and we're asking you to drown every enemy of the Lord God of Hosts. We're asking you to drown every demonic satanic perverted liberal compromise RINO agenda." peoplefor.org/rightwingwatch…

I love this from Ben McCollum. Culture starts with people. Energy-givers. Team-first players. Competitors. People who make everyone around them better. Get enough first-place people in the room, and you can build something special.

"If people cannot write well, they cannot think well, and if they cannot think well, others will do their thinking for them." ― George Orwell
The head of the philosophy department at Williams College downplays the pedagogical value of writing: “What if we are mistaken in treating writing as the highest cultivation of thought? The evidence that supports this belief is thin at best. Writing can be useful cognitive scaffolding for memory and self-regulated learning, but the notion that it is the best process for developing thinking skills is a fairly recent idea, traceable to the 1970s writing-across-the-curriculum movement.”

Nick Saban is the GOAT for a reason. He never chased trophies. Never coached to be liked. Never let adversity define his teams. Never tolerated mediocrity. He obsessed over one thing: How we’re going to do it. That’s coaching 🥇. What’s a standard you will not bend?👇

Here’s the part coaches can’t miss: If you want more players to lead, you have to create more opportunities for them to lead. Let them speak. Let them solve. Let them hold each other accountable. Leadership grows when players are trusted to practice it.👇
Titles can identify captains. But they can’t create leaders. I love this from Marcus Freeman: “We have a whole bunch of guys who are going to choose to lead. They don’t need a title to lead.” That’s what great teams need. Not 2 or 3 captains doing all the leading. A locker room full of people willing to speak up. Hold the standard. Bring energy. Help a teammate. Do the right thing when nobody is watching. Too many players wait for permission to lead. They think they need a “C” on their jersey, need to be a senior, or need the coach to name them something. You don’t. Leadership isn’t a position you’re given. It’s a choice you make. Every single day. 👇
