Todd Monken is great man 😂
“I know this sounds really goofy, but you sit there in bed and you don’t want the night to end. It’s 10:30 and you’re tired as hell, but you want to be up another 15, 20, 30 minutes to enjoy it. Because you know, shit, tomorrow you got to wake up and look at the offensive tape."
So much happened at the end that people will forget Mike Hall Jr. coming back onto the field on one leg to sack Rodgers on third down at the Browns 35 YL. Steelers were looking for points that easily could've altered the fourth quarter. What an absolute baller. Epitome of what Monken and the #Browns are trying to build 🫡
TreVeyon is best at running as fast as he can straight into someone for 1 yard. That’s his game right now. His YPC is on him as much as the line and play calling. Would be fun if he tried a Juke or spin move.
Some pretty high praise from #Jaguars head coach Liam Coen on #Browns tight end Harold Fannin Jr. ahead of their Week 1 matchup:
“I’m a huge fan of his. I loved him coming out of Bowling Green. I thought that he was super underrated last year going around and watching the tape. … You’re watching what they’re doing with him. I’m watching him block — I think it was Micah Parsons on a duo and he was in-line and he held his own and had a stalemate there and it was a good run. And then you see him flexed out running wheel routes and option routes, and then he goes all the way out to be the single receiver and he’s running daggers and like 20-yard ins. So I think it’s a good fit for Monk and for what he likes to do, and you saw what he did with [Isaiah Likely] in Baltimore as well. So I gotta believe there’s going to be some of those parts of Fannin’s game that are going to be able to translate to what Monk likes to do with some of those tight ends.”
The #Browns were historically bad on special teams last year so this has to be an Andre Szmyt appreciation post
As we enter Week 1, here’s where the Browns rank in ESPN’s Football Power Index:
🏈 30th in the NFL (32nd in offense, 17th in defense, 16th in special teams)
🏈 5.4% chance to make the playoffs (fourth-worst odds)
🏈 1% chance to win the AFC North
🏈 11.8% chance to get No. 1 pick in 2027 draft (fourth-highest odds)
The proven performance escalator strikes again!
Boutte's salary jumped from a little over $1M to $3.6M this spring based on playing time. Hard to see this as anything other than a salary move relative to Boutte's spot on the depth chart.
Not a move that makes the team better.
Trade: The Patriots are sending WR Kayshon Boutte to the Texans in exchange for safety Jaylen Reed and a 2028 seventh-round pick, as @TomPelissero reported.
Todd Monken on the fans not being in Deshaun Watson's corner and wanting Shedeur Sanders to be the starter: “Who would I be if I let somebody outside the building decide who plays.”
This is the cleanest look at the #Browns contract situation with Deshaun Watson (via Spotrac) and why releasing him isn’t really an option.
Since he’s getting the $46M cash this year no matter what, some sort of phantom release (reserve list, send home, etc) is most feasible.
Joint practices are an awesome product when you actually get a chance to see one.
But the #Browns joint practice with the Bills was closed to fans this week, and their preseason home opener will be mostly second- and third-stringers.
Feels like a flaw in the system.
Drake Maye #Patriots on Jalen Hurts #Eagles 🤝
“I just caught him on the way out as he was leaving the field. I’m a big fan of his game. Rooting for him. I told him back when I was committed to Alabama, back in the day, he was some of the quarterbacks that I was watching play there. And then he ended up going to Oklahoma. But he’s a Super Bowl champ. That speaks for itself. One of my best friends, Sam Howell, was in the room with him last year. So I got to know some stories about Jalen and how he works. I respect him a lot for that. I’m pulling for him.”
Todd Monken refuses to name a starting QB or rule Shedeur Sanders out of the competition, but per the Holy Grail of QB practice trackers, Sanders just had his fewest pass attempts of any practice at #Browns camp. During the most important week. Awkward.
Overrated? There are plenty of words to describe Drake Maye’s breakout sophomore season with the #Patriots. That's definitely not one of them.

Jared Verse on his recent head-to-head matchups in practice against #Browns rookie Spencer Fano:
“Going against him, he’s gotten so much better in these past couple of weeks. … And because he’s getting better, it’s getting to the point where I’m starting to learn things from him. I’m starting to learn a little bit about my tendencies, and what he’s picking up on. So it’s making me a better player as well.”
