Our Fall Survey for oyster diseases in the Virginia part of Chesapeake Bay @VIMS_News is now complete for Perkinsus marinus (dermo). Infection prevalence at the three Great Wicomico River reefs we survey is sharply down from 2023, and well below the long-term average.
In the York River and Mobjack Bay, dermo prevalence was slightly lower than in 2023 at the four surveyed reefs, and above the long term average, but still in the "normal" range @VIMS_News
Finally, in the James River dermo prevalence was below the 2023 level and the long-term mean, though still in the "normal" range as at the other sites. All in all, the situation with regard to this key oyster pathogen has improved in lower Chesapeake Bay @VIMS_News
