Kids who crave constant praise or attention often fear competition & even worse, losing. That fear drives many out of sports. Teach kids to be independent & confident. True success doesn’t come from ā€œfeel goodā€ awards, but from hard work, persistence, daily effort & real growth.

Which leads to an overarching trend in the class of ā€˜29, which seems to be an incredibly old class as of now. While incomplete, these are the YOBs of the players ranked in the top 50 of On3s latest 2029 rankings Only 6 ranked players are eligible to play for USA 16U this summer
What’s interesting is that a ton of the names in the class of ā€˜29 aren’t even age eligible to play on the U16 team this summer Bear Acy, RJ Evans, Bryce Irby, Eli Murray, Jeremiah Triplin, Jace Opoku are the notable few, joined by the class of 2030

HS players should look at the numbers of college players who don’t get out of the portal. What are your real chances of playing D1? Educate yourselves. Don’t be married to the level. An opportunity is an opportunity. Degrees don’t discriminate, use the game to secure your future.

In my opinion, High School Basketball rules need to change if you want to see more kids stay home and not go prep. 1) The best players need more gym access with unlimited contact days. 2) The rule where HS Coaches can’t coach their players in AAU needs to be abolished.

I’ve noticed parents who actually had successful sports careers are usually the quietest at games. They let their kids play and coaches coach. The loudest parents are often trying to live the career they never had through their kids. Let the kids have THEIR journey.

High school sports can mean very different things… chasing a scholarship, competing, or just being part of a team. But beyond the scoreboard, it’s about life lessons, growth & maturity. Sports teach kids how to be productive adults while pushing them toward their full potential.

A college coach can really like you and still not recruit you. It isn't always about talent. They may already have your position. They may need a different position more. They may not have the roster space. They may have another player they like a little more. Recruiting isn't just: ā€œAre you good enough?ā€ It's also: ā€œDo you fit what we need?ā€

D1s want Pros (literally), D2s want D1 Talent, D3s want D2 talent... NAIAs want D1/D2 Talent, UCSAA & NCCAA want D3 Talent. The higher level programs at each level want even higher level players -- the top D3s have D1 talent!

High School Players, note… 1% of you will go D1 .6 to NAIA 1% to D2 1.5% to D3 Juco average 1-2% depending on level. If any one of them are calling, answer the phone because in most cases you are a one percenter. RARE. Anyone one of these calls is a blessing! šŸ™šŸ¾

Unless you’re a legitimate Top 50ish prospect (generally speaking), don’t overlook the low-major & mid-major schools The numbers reinforce it. From 2025 to 2026, freshman scoring & MPG increased across CBB, with some of the biggest growth coming at the MM level. The number of freshmen averaging 10+ PPG also increased by 35 nationally, mostly at the LM level (53 total) MM freshmen went from averaging 11.1 MPG & 3.4 PPG in 2025 to 13.5 MPG & 4.8 PPG in 2026. At the 75th percentile, that jump was 15.6 → 20.3 MPG and 4.6 → 7.6 PPG.

🚨 Being a great teammate can be developed. Bringing energy, communicating when tired, celebrating someone else’s success, being coachable, and doing it consistently. The best players are the ones who are able to raise everyone else’s level day in and day out.

I hate seeing so many high school kids consumed by recruiting, stats and highlights… Time flies. One day, you’ll wish you could get back the memories, the moments, and the brotherhood of playing high school football with your teammates. Live in the moment!
