A hundred times every day I remind myself that my inner & outer life depend on the labours of others, living & dead, & that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received & am still receiving #einstein

JUST IN: Harvard scientists detect radio signals directly from a planet outside our solar system for the first time, located 64 light-years from Earth.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The detected signals are natural auroral radio emissions from β Pictoris b's magnetic field, not evidence of intelligent life or technology.

Children who take music lessons develop a larger corpus callosum, the bridge between the two halves of the brain, and the change is permanent. A 2005 review in the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences found that early music training produces structural brain changes that persist into adulthood, even if the person stops playing.
The review was led by Gottfried Schlaug at Harvard Medical School, one of the leading researchers on music and the brain. He found that children who started instrumental training before age seven had a significantly larger anterior corpus callosum than non-musicians, and the size difference was still visible in adults who had not touched an instrument in years.
The corpus callosum carries signals between the left and right hemispheres. A larger one means faster, richer communication between the two sides, and the effect shows up in tasks that have nothing to do with music: spatial reasoning, verbal memory, and the ability to process multiple streams of information at once. The music built the highway, and the brain uses it for everything.
Schlaug also found that musicians had larger cerebellums, the region involved in timing and motor coordination, and more grey matter in the areas that process sound. The brain had physically reorganised itself around the demands of the instrument, and the reorganisation was visible on a scan.
The age window matters. Children who started before seven showed the largest changes. Children who started after ten showed smaller ones. Adults who took up an instrument for the first time showed the least structural change, though they still showed some. The brain is most willing to be rebuilt by music during the years when most parents are debating whether to sign their child up for lessons. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/1659…

There is something special about #CarFreeDay in Kigali.
For a few hours on a Sunday morning, the city slows down. We walk, run, bike, exercise, and bring the children out, to simply enjoy streets that feel a little quieter, on a sunny morning that asks nothing of us.
These moments are a kind transition, between one week and the next.
Just a little space in between, like a precious reset before we begin again.
Happy Sunday, Kigali. ☀️

Taxi driver in New York asked me if I knew Stefanos Tsitsipas.
I said, "We're very close."
He said, "Good. Tell him to stop taking bathroom breaks like he's searching for Narnia."
I pulled my hood up and pretended I was a tourist from Oslo.
The quiet lie of optical wrist based wearables(Apple, Samsung, whoop, etc). Why it matters and how to fix it.
It affects you to plan recovery time needed before next workout. The fix is using a chest strap for workouts. Chest strap ≈ 99% agreement with ECG · wrist optical 52–91% during exercise, worst on bursts.
In garmin’s case: Training Effect, Load, Calories, Recovery Time all derive from one thing — HR as a % of your max.
Yang walks through three main levers that let them train stronger models more efficiently:
• Token efficiency — They replaced the long-standard Adam optimizer with Muon (plus their own stability fix called MuonClip + QK-Clip). This lets the model learn roughly twice as much from the same amount of data and compute. They also open-sourced parts of it.
• Long context — A hybrid architecture called Kimi Linear (using Kimi Delta Attention) that handles very long inputs far more efficiently than classic full attention. This makes million-token contexts practical and much faster at inference.
• Agent Swarms — Training the model to break hard problems into pieces and spin up specialized sub-agents that work in parallel, then combine the results. This is for complex, multi-step tasks rather than single-shot answers.

“Today, connectivity is no longer the end goal. We are now transitioning to the era of data-driven growth. Artificial intelligence is the common denominator that will redefine healthcare, education and energy, among many other sectors. As a commission, our mission is to ensure this transformation does not widen existing divisions.
The task ahead of us is urgent, but we will face challenges. The objective isn’t just to have a conversation. It is to ensure everything we agree to do, gets translated into tangible and practical outcomes.” President Kagame
President Kagame joined fellow Co-Chair Marc Benioff and Vice-Chair Doreen Bogdan-Martin for a fireside chat marking the launch of the AI for Good Global Commission. He then chaired the Commission’s inaugural meeting alongside Marc Benioff and Doreen Bogdan-Martin.
The high-level initiative brings together 44 commissioners to identify practical ways to harness artificial intelligence to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

“Artificial intelligence has the power to transform lives and strengthen economies. Africa is well-positioned to contribute to the digital economy. By 2050, our continent will have the largest, fastest-growing workforce in the world. There are many success stories about what our young people are doing on the continent with artificial intelligence. We have to invest in them. It will be a win-win for everyone. The bottom line, is that for A.I. to serve humanity as a whole, we must get it right in Africa and everywhere else.” President Kagame | #AIforGood Global Summit 2026

“My advice is simple: do not waste your energy fighting those who insult you.
Put your energy into building, building yourselves, and building your country, so that insults and the people who make them become insignificant and have no impact on you.
Ignore them, and keep doing what you are supposed to do. That is what matters.” ~ HE @PaulKagame

To help address a flash floods data gap, we created Groundsource: a new AI methodology using Gemini to identify 2.6M+ historical events across 150+ countries.
We’re open-sourcing this dataset to advance global research, and urban flash flood forecasts are live now in Flood Hub to help communities stay safe.
