This week, as a gift to a nation desperate for something to argue about that doesn’t involve global economic collapse, nuclear war with Iran, lousy Supreme Court decisions, Bibi’s mendacious address at the U.N, the guest list of the White House state dinner, Lauren Boebert’s body count, Nancy Mace’s podcast wardrobe, or Peter Thiel’s Nazi thoughts on the virtue of evil, the arts department of the New York Times dropped a list of the 100 best TV shows of the 21st century. The methodology was simple. The Times “polled hundreds of stars, showrunners, craftspeople, executives and other industry experts and asked them to vote for the 10 best series that have premiered since Jan. 1, 2000. (So don’t expect to see The Sopranos, which debuted in 1999.)” I thought it might be fun—and a reprieve from all the very dark, very depressing fare I’ve been producing on these pages lately—to make my own list of the best shows of the 21st century—and, because I’ve somehow only written about one of these shows on “Sunday Pages,” offer comment on each one.
