She bought a 10-pound bag of potatoes, a block of yellow lard, and a whole chicken that still had feathers on it. She roasted it on Sunday, made soup on Tuesday, gravy on Thursday, and nobody died of boredom. Don’t even start with snack foods. You think Grandpa was out here buying $8 artisanal kale chips and protein-infused tortilla bites? Please. He ate saltine crackers with peanut butter out of a giant tub, washed it down with tap water straight from the garden hose, and went right back to work. You’re handing a $6 plastic pouch to a toddler who literally licks the living room rug.
