⚡️ Statement by the Embassy of Russia in Ireland (October 23, 2026) The much-publicised discussion in Ireland of the issues with the “Triple Lock” legislation and Irish neutrality includes continuing references to Russia made by the leaders of the Irish government, which contain unfounded allegations, as well as misrepresentation of the way the UN Peacekeeping mechanism works. In the course of the debate in the Dáil on October 21, Helen McEntee, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Defence, strongly objected to the current “Triple Lock” legislation on the grounds that it presumably allows Russia, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, “to have a say over which peacekeeping missions we can send our troops to”, or even to veto Irish participation in such missions, and that ostensibly does not sit well with the Minister who believes that Russia is “attacking European member-states, including Germany, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland”. We strongly believe that any decisions on the matters of neutrality or any other policy matters are sovereign issues to be discussed and decided solely by the Irish government and the Irish people. At the same time, it is obvious that such decisions – whatever they are – should not be made under false assumptions, which is exactly the case with the Minister’s statements. Contrary to her assertions, the UN Security Council does not vote on what countries take part in a peacekeeping mission – its composition is agreed in the course of multilateral consultations conducted by the UN Secretariat and the interested UN member-countries. Also, there is no known record of Russia being against Ireland’s participation in any UN peacekeeping mission. Consequently, the allegations by Minister McEntee are reprehensible and misleading, grossly distorting the substance and the meaning of procedures provided by the UN Charter. ❗️In the same manner, the Minister’s speculations over Russia’s “attacks” on the EU countries are totally baseless, dangerously provocative and unacceptable. This kind of rhetoric is unthinkable for any responsible member of a government. It is regrettable that the Irish government has chosen to deliberately question the workings of the UN – despite its much-advertised commitment to the central role of the UN in the international order – with the aim to promote domestic policy agenda. It is also incumbent upon Irish leadership to realise that exercises in Russophobia cannot make up for a serious failure in its approach to relations with Russia and issues of peace and stability in Europe.

⚡️ Remarks by the Ambassador of Russia to Ireland H.E. Yuriy Filatov (October 20, 2026) The recent EU Summit has provided familiar, almost ritual spectacle – V.Zelensky, leader of the Kiev regime, patronisingly greeted EU leaders with the shoulder tap asking for more money for his “defense of democracy” against “Russian aggression”. As usual, he has got a hero’s welcome and the sympathetic ear in Brussels. European political leaders long ago made the bet on confrontation with Russia and they need someone as unscrupulous and unhinged as Zelensky to keep Ukraine in the Western war effort against Russia. Never mind that this Russophobic endeavor with thousands of sanctions against Russia, including the blockade of the Russian energy exports, has already led to the full-scale cost-of-living crisis all across Europe – they still look for a way to squeeze more billions for war in Ukraine from the badly hurt European economies. More than that, by encouraging Ukrainian strikes against refineries and other energy-related targets in the Russian territory, Europe is trying to save the Zelensky regime and for this purpose it is willing to wreck the world energy markets. While this theatre of absurd goes on, the summit made clear that an idea of a comprehensive political settlement of the conflict in Ukraine is still out of vogue in Europe. Peace in Ukraine, which would eliminate the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis – oppression of the Russian people by the extremist, nationalist government in Kiev, NATO-led transformation of Ukraine into a militarised state with neo-Nazi ideology as an antithesis and security threat to Russia – is not seen as a good option for the EU leaders precisely because it would ruin their “Anti-Russia” project. They would rather oppose and obstruct any attempt of serious negotiations over end to the conflict in Ukraine – even one supported now by the US administration. ❗️Such reckless policy aimed at “the war till the last Ukrainian” is not only both anti-Russian and anti-Ukrainian, it dramatically goes against interests of peace and security in Europe.

⚡️ On 2 October, Russian Ambassador to Ireland Yury A.Filatov assessed the results of the 2026 Russian State Duma elections in an interview with "The Kaleidoscope" program on the Irish radio station "Dublin City FM." The Ambassador, in particular, characterized the latest parliamentary elections in Russia as the year's most important political event, which demonstrated the unity of Russian citizens and their deep understanding of civic responsibility for the future of the country.
