UnitedHealth used their profits to pay out $11.2 billion directly to its investors during the first 9 months of 2026. This was split between $5 billion spent on stock buybacks to boost their value and $6.2 billion paid out as cash dividends.
What does it say about our nation's healthcare system that a handful of bigwigs and predatory middlemen can extract over $10 billion in under a year and pocket it for their own private profits? How many claims were denied to make that possible? How many innocent Americans had to suffer?
These massive profits rely on automated claim denials or strict prior authorization rules, which delay and block medically necessary treatment. How many vulnerable patients were subjected to emotional and financial stress in their time of need so UnitedHealth can make these profits?
Taking billions of dollars out of our healthcare system and funneling it to wealthy investors is a cruel and immoral heist. They are stealing essential resources away from places where that money is needed most like direct clinical care, patient access, and lowering out-of-pocket costs for patients.
Maximizing returns as a health insurer means generating worse patient outcomes. Americans are suffering and dying in preventable ways to make a few people richer. This is some serial killer shit. It doesn't have to be this way.

Roughly 500 people who are detained are on a hunger strike to protest the poor living conditions at an ICE facility in Folkston, Georgia.
Participants in the strike published a letter citing lack of clean water, dirty facilities, inadequate medical care, and prolonged detention.
One person's wife says the GEO-operated facility retaliated against her husband for participating in the hunger strike by placing him in solitary.
This is one of the largest coordinated hunger strikes inside an ICE facility in years. The actual participation rate is disputed, but it's hard to know what the real number is for sure because of the lack of transparency going on inside these concentration camps.
It's inspiring to witness this collective courage and resistance from people who came from all around the world like Latin America, South Asia, Eastern Europe, Middle East, etc. uniting inside a concentration camp to go on strike. They are far more American than any of the gestapo thugs who trafficked them into these camps.

Municipal golf can and should exist symbiotically with other forms of public recreation. That's how East Potomac is designed. The golf course preserves a large swath of green space in the middle, and non-golfers are invited to enjoy the recreational areas along the perimeter. The different sections of the park are mutually supportive.
If the golf course subsumes everything around it, those interrelationships get broken. This is the kind of thing that gives golf a bad name and might make non-golfers everywhere wonder why public land and money should be devoted to the game.

This was how Trump spent his Saturday night. At Mar-a-Lago with corporate leaders and wealthy donors throwing millions of dollars at his super PAC because they want things in return, and are getting them. This is the overt decline of the United States!

Hey MAGA, any word on where Trump is on that concept of a healthcare plan? That black president had an actual healthcare plan signed into law one year and two months after he was elected. But maybe not a fair comparison because Dems controlled both houses of Congress?
Oh. Wait.

The defining characteristic of Trump II is a woeful and blatant disregard for the public that the admin is supposed to serve. The proposed plan is an affront to any regard for public space and what public lands are actually supposed to be.
Officials have sufficiently insulated themselves from any fair and deserved criticism. They don’t see themselves as beholden to the public that put them where they are. And any fair and reasonable criticism they do see is written off as “TDS.”
Instead, they see themselves as the sole arbiters of our fate. They will decide what they want and we will suffer its consequences.
The overhaul of East Potomac Park, especially among current users / residents of DC, is a 90/10 issue. But @SecretaryBurgum does not care about that.
They do not see themselves as temporary stewards of OUR land but instead the individual owners of it.
This is such a despicable and shameful act words cannot even describe. With no regard for the public whatsoever.

Trump releases his plan to re-do the East Potomac Park golf course in DC. His graphic does not show the current road which runs around Hains Point, or the picnic and memorial areas at the end. Getting rid of those public areas would be terrible.

Interesting how respectful Trump is of the name Mohammed when it’s attached to a Saudi Prince with a penchant for bone saws.
But he hates that name when it’s an American. Interesting.

This is golf gentrification like I’ve never seen. Hains Point has been a quintessential muni course for the people, for decades. A duffers course. Hardpan but affordable. Accessible. Communal. Local. Urban. DC has so few affordable golf options. Washington didn’t ask for this.
New: Trump says that East Potomac Golf Course will close on Nov 15 for the redesign by Tom Fazio.
“Restoration work will begin on the Fazio Design on November 15th, when the old Course will be closed to play. The new Course will be opened in approximately 15 months.”
This comes as there is a heated legal dispute right now about whether the government can redesign the course.

What about, and hear me out. It continues to serve as a golf course and a public park. Almost like it has been for 100 years.

Tearing down the East Wing and ruining the Reflecting Pool are bad, but symbolically so. This makes the experience of living in DC as a normal person – turning a place for cycling, fishing, birding, picnicking, and cheap golf into a playground for the rich – materially worse.
