The @Kotlin adoption story began before official support from Google. The excitement in the community was one of the reasons to invest in official support!
Kotlin and Android GDE @RunChristinaRun reminisces about the early days. → goo.gle/3QPHjNq

ALT “The decision by Google to add support for Kotlin, I think we underestimate how wild of a notion that was at the time. The odds of another company that size making a similar decision based on community support and enthusiasm is very low.“ (Christina Lee, Android engineer at Pinterest, Kotlin and Android GDE)
Happy 5 years of Kotlin on Android (officially speaking, of course 😉). It was so fun to reminisce about how far things have come since those earliest days!

Also I haven't been on Twitter in months but while I'm here I'd like to say: becoming a professional dog trainer has taught me more about what it means to be a tech lead than any tech specific career training I've ever done and now I need to host a conf so I can give this talk.
The fundamental principles of learning are the same across species, but to teach across species lines you need to REALLY pay attention to how learning occurs and how to optimize for it with minimal frustration. It's extremely simple in theory, wildly complex in application.
Remember that time when I showed up to give a presentation and then couldn't share my deck so presented the entire talk from memory?! 🙃
Bless this audience and these organizers for bearing with me 💛 Such a delightful group of people!
There is nothing to it, but to get through it. @RunChristinaRun is "Doin' it Live" and working through tech issues like the PRO💪 she is on how to determine the "rightest" offer for you.

Unsure who is reaping the rewards of this gift more: Eugene who now has a snuggly blanket for afternoon snoozles or me who now gets even more cute Eugene photos, now with 2x the Eugene content‼️

If you have been thinking about teaching your furry friends to talk I highly recommend it! It has really changed how I look at the world and the non human animals we share it with.
Today I
1) logged into twitter again
2) gave a talk for the first time in 2 years
3) drove to shoreline for I/O
(Developer) Nature is healing 🥺
Can’t wait to see everyone tomorrow!
In related news I'm thrilled about the public release of Molecule, a state management solution coming out of @squareeng . I'm early in my dogfooding but am extremely excited by the potential and eager to continue building on it.

This is a tremendous article from Rebecca and the team. Just finished reading and found it extremely detailed with practical learnings and advice.
💃🏻 New blog post! We wrote a bit about our Journey with State Management and MVI on the GoDaddy Studio Android app 🚗 Spoiler - it has been a long journey...

Another kerfluffle over someone saying gender shouldn't matter in tech and I'm not sure what the fuss is about because I totally agree that men should stop getting jobs, promotions, and funding due to their gender

software engineering is just feeling like an idiot for two weeks then like a GOD for one day
"Mine!" is a phenomenal book. It was immensely thought provoking both generally in my capacity as a person who lives in society and also as someone who works at a tech company during a period in time where technology is dramatically changing rules of ownership. Highly recommend
The clearest take on XPlat I've seen yet
“At the highest level, cross-platform UI technologies prioritize coordinated featurefulness over polished UX.”

Switching back to IJ has been a good opportunity to clean house on default settings that don't bring me joy. If you're still opening XML files and then immediately switching to the `code` view, update your default editor mode and breathe a sigh of relief 🙂
Ayyy, Best Seller is a good look on you @chethaase 😎
#AndroidsBook
I was lucky enough to get an early copy of #AndroidsBook and all I can say is go read it. Right now. Do you want to know why Bugdroid is green? Or why @romainguy was called a turkey? Or the only way I will ever respond to questions I don't know from now on? 👇👇👇
#AndroidsBook should now be available for download on Play, Amazon, and Apple (Kobo is still thinking about it).
There's an ongoing problem with the paperbacks on Amazon, hopefully that will be fixed soon.
I hope everyone's enjoying it.
Read carefully: there will be a quiz.
Also I was reading the book because it's really entertaining, but somehow it snuck in some vegetables too? Can't even count the number of times I've thought "so *that's* why <part of framework> is the way it is! This makes so much more sense now!"
Android Mental Model++
And don't even get me started on @dsandler 's incredible artwork throughout the book. So utterly delightful! First time in a long time I've regretted reading on a kindle, but as soon as the paperbacks are available I'll be snatching one up to get those full color illustrations 🤗
