Our breakdown of the election results and what could be next in Israel
In Israel, nearly all the votes have been counted in Tuesday’s election. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his allies emerged as the largest bloc, but lost seats and fell short of the majority needed to form a new government.
The results leave Israel facing the prospect of political gridlock.

Seeing Marco Rubio on the campaign trail with Trump in Texas yesterday reminded me of this -- how many people at the White House we found, during months of reporting our Businessweek cover profile, who are rooting for Rubio to be the next Republican presidential nominee.
It was fascinating to see the rally crowd reaction to his appearances in Corpus Christi and Lubbock
If Marco Rubio does decide to run for president down the road, he’ll have the enthusiastic backing of people at the White House, where he’s a favorite among the staff.
He frequently roams around the building cracking jokes and chatting up junior aides.
“While no one says the quiet part out loud, behind closed doors many people are rallying behind him as the frontrunner for 2028,” says a Trump ally. “It’s not an anti-JD thing. It’s just that Rubio is the best person to carry the mantle.”
