A couple weeks ago, I drove to Las Vegas to interview OnlyUseMeBlade in the middle of his Vegas bender. I chose to do this episode because his entire descent into alcoholism has been documented online every step of the way, and I wanted to discuss what that descent was like for him.
Blade is a notorious & widely hated IRL streamer who has lost 5/10 of his toes to a combo of untreated diabetes & alcoholism.
I first met Blade at an event called PAX East in 2018, and he was very different when we first met. Physically and mentally, Blade has clearly deteriorated in recent years. He seems deeply unhappy, and it's hard to ignore in this interview. His leg is bad, very bad.
Blade desperately needs to quit drinking and get help. I have never been more worried about a guest than this. Blade justifies his drinking by saying it's "just for money", despite currently being homeless. Where is the money going?
We originally planned to film this in his hotel room, but upon entering the room and being greeted by a bloody bathroom and a smell I cannot use words to describe, we had to book a new room across the hall to do the episode because my producer was going to quit otherwise. I threw away all of the clothes I wore during this interview.
From what I've been around, Blade is a genuinely good guy when he's sober, and a genuinely bad guy when he's drunk. I know plenty of addicts, but I'm not sure if I've ever seen this extreme of a 180 from drugs or alcohol. Most addicts are still *somewhat* like their sober selves when high, but not Blade. During this interview, it became clear to me that Blade is ashamed of his current situation, his drunken self and the things he does while intoxicated, but feels he cannot stop getting drunk, so the cycle continues.

Carl Jung believed he carried a daimon: an inner force that drove him forward and never let him rest on what he had already achieved.
It cost him relationships and left him isolated at times.
But he followed it anyway, and it shaped the whole of his life’s work.

C.S. Lewis basically predicted (and warned against) short-form global media

ALT It is one of the evils of rapid diffusion of news that the sorrows of all the world come to us every morning. I think each village was meant to feel pity for it’s own sick and poor whom it can help and I doubt if it is the duty of any private person to fix his mind on ills which he cannot help. (This may even become an escape from the works of charity we really can do to those we know). A great many people do now seem think that the mere state of being worried is in itself meritorious. I don’t think it is. We must, if it so happens, give our lives for others: but even while we’re doing it, I think we’re meant to enjoy Our Lord and, in Him, our friends, our food, our sleep, your jokes, and the birds song and the frosty sunrise.

Horror is, perhaps unexpectedly, one of the most Christian genres of films. Now, a caveat is that most of what gets made today is aesthetically gross and filthy, but the central ideas of horror are often deeply Christian themes: the reality of evil, the inescapability of judgement, supernatural malevolence, the desire for evil to destroy that which is pure , and ultimately the triumph of righteousness and light over evil.

Yeah, that's the point. If a republican candidate finds out about him spreading revenge porn, how exactly do you think that's gonna go down?
