The private rental sector runs on PUBLIC money.
£70bn straight into landlords' pockets for poor-quality and insecure accommodation.
Imagine if that £70bn went into public housing.
The housing crisis is a political choice.

Seriously worrying precendent here. 'Decant' residents from social housing blocks for urgent repair work, then change course and sell the blocks to the private sector.

BrewDog's owner James Watt is worth £262,000,000 - but won't pay his staff properly.
What could be more punk than that?
A direct challenge to the idea that regeneration and the planning system are games to be played, enabled by those in power and where the losers are always decided from the outset. Well done to all involved 1/4

3/4 obviously ‘the game’ is still heavily weighted against those most affected and there is a long way to go toward achieving genuine power sharing and democratic control (some interesting cases out there),

We are increasingly seeing people like this 👇 use housing to stir up hate.
But migrants are among those MOST EXPLOITED by London's extortionate and unsafe private rental system. Most social renters are born in the UK.
We need more public housing available for EVERYONE.

Your regular reminder that 81% of new social housing lettings go to white British tenants and 90% go to UK nationals. At a dangerous political moment, please don't let the right establish one of their favourite narratives (lies): that immigrants get all the council housing.

That would be Terrapin, which represented Lendlease during the time it 'regenerated' the Heygate Estate in Southwark - replacing 1,200 social rented homes with just 100. And Peter John, who was leader of Southwark Council at the time of the regen and is now Terrapin's chair.
Brilliant evening, huge thanks to @AndrewHWestern @peterjohn6 @promise_knight @AbdiDuale_ & @FionaMColley for speaking and Terrapin Group for sponsoring - next step Manchester
This feels positive. Now all we need is the ability for councils to purchase at less than market value. Wonder if that’s still a @UKLabour policy or been abandoned with the rest of them
Today @MayorofLondon is launching the Council Homes Acquisitions Programme (CHAP) with a target to bring 10k homes into council ownership over 10 years.
This follows the success of his Right to Buy Back scheme which helped councils buy nearly 1,300 homes. london.gov.uk/mayor-launches…
