Airliners do not trim with a tab. The whole horizontal tail moves. A jackscrew tilts the stabiliser a few degrees nose-up or nose-down so the elevators can sit neutral in cruise, and on a 737 the trim wheels beside the throttles spin every time it runs.
Etihad reaches Luxembourg on 29 October: EY51 leaves Abu Dhabi at 02:45 and lands at 06:55, three a week on an A321LR with First Suites up front. The first airline from the Middle East to serve the country, and the only nonstop between the two cities.

Seven years ago today Qantas flew QF7879 from New York to Sydney nonstop: a 787-9 with maximum fuel and almost no payload, 19 hours 16 minutes in the air, landing at 7:43 on a Sunday morning. A research flight. The real thing, Project Sunrise, starts in 2027. #AvGeek

United and Aperture Cellars blended a Cabernet at 35,000 feet, on a New York to San Francisco flight, because wine tastes different in a pressurised cabin. 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, plus Malbec, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. It reaches Polaris in 2028.

The 777-9 folds its wingtips. In flight the span is 71.76 m. On the ground the last 3.5 m of each wing swings up and the span drops to 64.84 m, just under the 65 m limit of the airport category today's 777 already fits.

British Caledonian dressed its cabin crew in tartan. Formed on St Andrew's Day 1970, based at Gatwick, and in the 1980s its slogan was "We never forget you have a choice." British Airways bought it in December 1987. #AvGeek

Before the 787, Boeing showed airlines something faster. The Sonic Cruiser, unveiled on 29 March 2001, was a canard delta meant to cruise at Mach 0.95 to 0.98. Airlines chose cheaper over faster, and by December 2002 it had given way to the 7E7, later the 787.

An ATR 72 at the gate with one engine running and its propeller standing still is not a fault. It is Hotel Mode: a brake holds the right-hand propeller while the engine turns, supplying power and air to the cabin without an APU. #AvGeek

The Q in Q400 stands for quiet. From the mid-1990s Dash 8s were built with an active noise and vibration suppression system working against the propeller hum, and the whole family was renamed the Q series to sell it.
The engine intakes on a 737 are flat on the bottom. When the 737 Classic got the fatter CFM56 in the 1980s there was not enough room under the low wing, so accessories moved to the sides and the nacelle went flat. Spotters call it the hamster pouch.

Air Force One is a callsign, not an aircraft. Any US Air Force aircraft with the president aboard uses it. It dates from 1954, after a presidential Constellation shared airspace with an airline flight using the same flight number.
