ALT Safiya Kamaria Kinshasa, Malaika Kegode, Saili Katebe and Rufus Mufasa APPLES AND SNAKES: #THISISA(RURAL)POET Wednesday 31 May 2023, 8.30pm Venue: The Hive How does growing up in rural Britain impact a poet’s work when their cultural heritage has deep roots elsewhere? Poetry organisation Apples and Snakes presents an hour of poetry and conversation with three dynamic spoken word poets hosted by literary activist Rufus Mufasa. Safiya Kamaria Kinshasa is a British-born Barbadian-raised choreo-poet. Her debut poetry collection Cane, Corn & Gully was shortlisted for the Rathbones Folio Prize. Malaika Kegode is a writer, performer and creative producer based in Bristol whose work is focused on uplifting and celebrating the overlooked and misunderstood. Saili Katebe is a writer born in Zambia and based in the South West of England who is signed to Nymphs & Thugs, the UK’s leading spoken word record label. Price: £12.00

ALT The cover of the book 'Haunting Ashton Court'. On the cover, an arched shape encloses all the content, evocative of an old, arched window. The title of the book is in wobbly, 'ghostly' font. Dotted around the cover are cut-outs, showing slices of photographs from archives or performances. One shows an old painting of a young black page boy and his young white mistress. Another shows a young person holding a scripts and gesturing powerfully, lit by red light. Another shows three young people gathered around a microphone, casting dramatic shadows. Another shows an old stained-glass window with a family crest, and a pile of old postcards. Between these images, a chain loops and curves.
