Some of the most powerful witnesses to the Real Presence are Catholics who do not receive Holy Communion.
Bishop Erik Varden's reflections following the Vatican's Amoris Laetitia meeting deserve careful attention, particularly his recognition of Catholics in irregular marital situations who faithfully attend Mass, participate in parish life, but refrain from receiving Holy Communion.
He describes their fidelity as a genuine contribution to the Christian community, beautifully observing that āSacramental exile sustained over time can prepare a joyful homecoming.ā
Professor Jacob Phillips @Counteredlogos makes a particularly interesting observation here. In a city like London, such Catholics could attend Mass anonymously, receive Communion and nobody would be any the wiser. Yet many choose not to.
Consider what this tells us. Their fidelity is not imposed by surveillance or fear of embarrassment, rather it springs from conscience, reverence for the Eucharist and a recognition that the sacraments possess an objective reality which cannot simply be subordinated to our personal circumstances.
Surely this raises a question about the whole synodal enterprise?
We hear a great deal about listening to those who experience the Church's teaching as burdensome, and rightly so. But how much attention is given to those who embrace that teaching despite the burden it places upon them? Are their sacrifices, their consciences and their "lived experience" being taken equally seriously?
There is a danger of treating every painful pastoral situation as a problem whose solution must involve relaxing sacramental discipline but the Christian life has never promised freedom from suffering. It promises that suffering, united to Christ, can become fruitful. Bishop Varden's great insight is that Christian accompaniment must be ordered towards conversion and holiness, not simply affirmation. Genuine mercy does not pretend that difficult truths cease to exist. It helps people live in the light of those truths, confident that God's grace is already at work.
Perhaps one of the most important voices in the debate over Holy Communion belongs to those who quietly, faithfully, choose not to receive it.

"The community we're part of won't exist anymore"
The plans to destory Harmondsworth Village and it's medievial structures.
If you wouldn't mind, please repost this clip and/or the original (full length video) attached to help highlight not only this tragic case, but the many others that we've yet to hear about.
Harmondsworth's medieval barn, church, and the pubs, which are centuries old, would all dissappear in one fell swoop or over time. Even with alterations to the plan, any surviving buildings, like the community itself, would still die.

The Fate of Harmondsworth Village (The proposed runway of Heathrow Airport)
In this special episode, we visit the historic village of Harmondsworth, which faces partial demolition, severe noise risks, and community displacement under the proposed third runway expansion of Heathrow Airport. It's not only its pubs that will suffer or disappear, but everything that makes it so magnificent.
Whilst in this quaint village, we speak to Ivor (the organist of St Mary's), Alan, and Justine (volunteer's at the nearby Medieval barn) to hear the inside story behind what's taken place. The pubs, homes, and various other features will either disappear or die a slow death from being left without a community.
Harmondsworth is a wonderful village with an extensive history dating from Anglo-Saxon England, through the Norman era, and every epoch since. We hear of how damaging and plans were (and have continued to be) and the effect it's had on those who live there.
The proposed plans by Heathrow and the potential fate of Harmondsworth and its surrounding areas set a very dark precedent indeed. The plans for this village mean listed buildings that are centuries old would be demolished without a second thought. A millennium of social history could be wiped out.
It's important that those who care for the sanctity of Britain and its past watch this video and share it with others. This video will end all doubts as to how much danger Britain's history and beauty face in modern times.
Thank you all for your viewership and support. š¤

Things are really hotting up at the Patriots Protest in Leeds today, anyone seen their estimate on numbers?
In 2026, the far right are trying to convince us that having MPs of foreign ancestry is some outrageous new phenomenon. Britainās history tells a totally different story.
Our first non-white MP, James Townshend, who had Dutch and African ancestry, was elected in 1767 and went on to become Lord Mayor of London in 1772. Richard Beckford, of Jamaican ancestry, followed in 1780; John Stewart, of mixed ancestry, in 1832; David Ochterlony Dyce Sombre, of Indian and European ancestry, in 1841; and Dadabhai Naoroji, born in India, in 1892.
These examples are from hundreds of years ago. Britain went on to prosper and become one of the worldās leading economic powers.
Stop allowing hard-right extremists to whitewash British history and convince you that Britain and British democracy somehow thrived as a pure white nationalist society. Itās bullshit.
Britain has been a multicultural nation for centuries, and people from across the world have contributed enormously to its prosperity. Racism and white nationalism damage our country and our place in the world. They are the exact opposite of patriotism.
