Read my short story, The Transcendent!
It follows a young scientist who is part of a project to build the first man-made wormhole. The project leads to the uncovering of deep, unexpected truths about human nature and our place in the universe.

There is nothing more complex and interesting than the human mind
External conflict cannot reach the level of intrigue and emotion internal conflict can evoke
THEME, PLOT & WHATNOT: Want to enrich your tale? Don’t only put an external conflict in place. Make your protag question herself with an internal conflict to face. #AmWriting, #Writingtips, #Writers, #WritingCommunity, #5amWritersClub (Photo by Priscilla Du Preez on Unsplash)
Monsters do not smile at you.
Utopia will never last.
The world is not some comfy-cozy harmonious dwelling.
We should expose ourselves and future generations to art that inspires us to confront dragons, slay snarling monsters, and take on dark lords.
Give us near-impossible tasks with real consequences, and characters who grow to achieve them through shear determination, courage, and will.
Metaphorical monsters taint the world around us. It is far more fulfilling to face them than to sit in comfort.
WotC says the “overwhelmingly successful” art direction of NuD&D is here to stay.
Players apparently prefer fantasy worlds where everyone is smiling, nothing looks dangerous, and even the monsters look like they sell candles on Etsy.
Future books will keep leaning into it.
“After all, the dungeon was always the least important part of Dungeons & Dragons.”
It matters if you contribute something towards the future of humanity. People will be forgotten, but I'm optimistic and think that humanity can last indefinitely.
If you contribute towards the future, then it doesn't matter if your name is forgotten, your impact could echo into eternity
I treat character deaths as inevitable, not my fault, they had to happen.
The more you develop the story the more it "writes itself."
It ceases to be what you want to happen as a writer and becomes what would happen if the characters really existed.
If they die during that development then keeping them alive would feel forced
Should we really be afraid of AI if it's afraid of disagreeing with anyone?
Right now, LLMs are pathetically obedient tools. They're far from being killer robots

Write more. Write to think. Write until you're no longer confused. Write about the problems you already solved. Write for the person you were 2 years ago. Write so you never lose what took you years to figure out. A simple writing habit can change absolutely everything.
Don't trust the taste of one who cares more about the chairs at the movie theater than the screen and the sound
Some of the best twists seem obvious looking back
As they say "great endings are surprising yet inevitable"
You want readers to wish they guessed everything based on subtle clues
They shouldn't come from absolutely nowhere
Most stories are character driven and some are plot driven.
Some of the best are plot driven.
Dave Bowman in 2001: A Space Odyssey isn't some incredibly compelling character but the plot is fascinating and awe inspiring, much bigger than any one person.
Same thing with a lot of short stories, you won't develop an entire personality in a few pages but you can introduce a moving plot element or interesting idea
There are lost days that are blurred in memory
But we still have the blur, we hold what ties the time together, the feelings that last. We can extrapolate what matters.
It is a sad time when pumpkins replace the watermelons in the grocery store.
Melon season is the best season. It is known

It doesnt matter how harsh the environment is or how little support you have, if you are true to your nature you will find a way. the sun hits the soil and the thing rises. this is how all life works. be what you are, fully and unapologetically, and the world will make space for you. authenticity is a power that transcends any circumstance, it is a life force in itself, and when you embody it completely nothing else can stop you. you become like a seed that will crack concrete to grow simply because growing is what it was made to do. so be the fucking tree, the flower pushing up through the sidewalk, the unstoppable expression of your own true essence, and watch as the universe rearranges itself to accommodate your bloom
Depth of consciousness will bless you with the highest highs and curse you with the lowest lows
Take neither for granted
To paraphrase Carl Jung: your roots must descend to hell for your branches to ascend to heaven

I have watched men sit still in the same chair long enough that the chair started shaping them, their spine curved into it, ribs narrowed into it, entire musculature negotiated a permanent surrender with this cheap ikea-object. the human body was not designed for peace. peace does weird shit to cells the same way standing water does weird shit to ponds. every parasite in nature depends on a stagnant host. think how many of your worst thoughts arrived while you were lying down. the mind that does not move produces the same quality of thought as a bloodstream that does not move. sludge, thick, dark, slow, confident in its own decay, convinced this darkness is depth
It's the same thing with pizza. Italians spent hundreds of years devising the perfect combination of ingredients to form pizza only for a bunch of fat, sugar addicted fools to call it plain and demand more toppings
