The idea that “Money can’t buy happiness” is such a Baby Boomer concept. I don’t want extreme wealth for luxuries like a gold plated toilet seat, Karen. I just don’t want to be crying because I can’t afford both spaghetti and rent after working 40 hours a week.

I might be a little less distrustful of AI if the dudes promoting it, supporting it, insisting on it, and advocating for it weren’t the worst fucking people on the planet.

Booby trapping objects that could easily end up in non combatant hands and that detonate in public places is literally terrorism.

Let's try this one last time:
If my son was involved in the 7 hour gang rape of an unconscious woman, I'd k*ll him myself because there's no rehabilitating that

We know how to solve the world’s problems, it’s just that the rich don’t like the solutions.
It's a specious claim that artificial superintelligence will benefit everyone. Humanity's problems are not caused by a lack of intelligence, our problems are caused by greedy plutocrats like Zuckerberg. It's like a serial killer telling us we can stop serial killing by making serial killers smarter.
The argument hinges on the premise that humanity is suffering because we're just not smart enough to come up with the right solutions, when in reality that hasn't been the case for a very long time. Humanity has had the technology and resources to solve all its major problems for generations; we've just chosen to use our technology and resources making rich people richer instead.
We've long had the ability to end extreme poverty, to stop destroying our biosphere, to stop waging wars, to stop pillaging the global south at unfair prices, to stop imposing starvation sanctions, to end genocides, to remove money from politics, to institute true democracy, to create a well-informed electorate free from propaganda brainwashing, and to provide everyone with a decent standard of living. This hasn't failed to happen due to our lack of superintelligence, it has failed to happen because the people with the power and the money actively stop it from happening.
No amount of added cleverness is going to make plutocrats less greedy, make warmongers less bloodthirsty, make politicians less corrupt, make empire managers less tyrannical, make imperial propagandists less deceitful and manipulative, or make capitalists less exploitative and ecocidal. Give them artificial superintelligence and they'll just use it to grab up more money and control, just like they're doing with the AI of the present day.
We can already see that AI is not making the world a better place. It's already taking away jobs, facilitating war crimes and mass surveillance, poisoning art, and making people crazy and stupid. We're already witnessing the results of more intelligent AI. Continuing to say we just need the AI to be more intelligent is like taking a pill to get healthy, having a terrible reaction to the medicine, and then deciding we just need to dramatically increase the dose.
Artificial superintelligence isn't going to solve all our problems because our problems don't arise from insufficient intelligence. We don't need artificial superintelligence, we need basic human kindness. We need justice. We need ethics. No matter how much intelligence we add to the AI soup, it's never going to magically add up to simple human morality. Which is what we're actually going to need if we're going to create a healthy world.

.@newrepublic’s reporting didn’t say that Trump is banning the programs. It said he’s banning the loans for the programs.
So you just confirmed everything they reported was true AND proved that the current U.S. Department of Education is completely illiterate.
This is fake news at its finest.
First off, we’re not ‘banning’ any program. The federal government doesn’t set curriculum or programs.
Here’s the truth: we are holding colleges accountable for leaving students worse off than if they never enrolled. Too many graduates report delaying major life milestones like buying a home or starting a family. Why? Because low return-on-investment programs saddled them with unmanageable debt that was never going to translate into a real-world job.
Federal student loans are not a welfare program for failing college programs. American students deserve education and training pathways that prepare them for the workforce – and transparency about programs that will never pay off.

The reason that Michael Tracey wants to out the Jane Doe in the Cornell case is simply so they can dig into her life and expose every single flaw in her character — the more human she becomes in the narrative, the less of a “perfect victim” she is — and that’s better for the rapists.
The more a victim is known, the more people will blame her for this atrocity and what was done to her.
Michael Tracey is among the men trying to out Jane Doe. She's the woman who was raped by the seven Cornell University students.
Tracey’s been using social media to call for people to send him information about her and promising to identify Jane Doe if he can get the information he needs.
Tracey has form for demeaning sexual assault survivors, including victims of Jeffrey Epstein and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
He does this under the guise of free speech and freedom of the press.
The only person who should identify Jane Doe is Jane Doe.
Otherwise, we need to protect her identity at all costs.

can a neurotypical person please explain where they draw the line between a “reason” and an “excuse” because apparently i still don’t understand the rules. you ask me, “why did you do it that way?” and naturally i’m going to explain exactly what was going through my head because… you literally asked. then three sentences into my explanation you hit me with “i don’t want excuses.” okay??? you wanted the explanation or you wanted me to guess the answer you already had in mind?

I was constantly told in the 5th grade, "Enjoy recess now, because this will be your last of it." I was told I'd miss it forever. I really didn't. But when I learned I had already attended my last Scholastic Book Fair without anyone warning me, I mourned.

I want to thank the @NFL for bringing so much attention to the innocent children being murdered in the #GazaGenocide
Had they ignored Azziz, nobody would even have known he was wearing their names. The NFL blew it up despite making themselves look like ghouls.
