I wake up at 4: 30 am for a 12 hour shift 6-6 as an industrial janitor. My wife works a 9-5pm as a receptionist. We live in a very working class area of Halifax. We have no extravagant spending habits. Yet we absolutely struggle to make our bills each month. We are actually having serious considerations of selling our car and taking public transit just so we can have more financial "wiggle room." My coworker took occupancy of his two bedroom unit in 2020, for $900 per month. We moved in towards the end of 2022 for $1500 per month. Presently a two bedroom unit in my building is going for 2400 per month. This economy is absolutely strangling the working class.

A 7 hour wait for @vicpdcanada officers overnight at RJH for a physician to see an individual apprehended under the Mental Health Act. Officers waited from 2am to 9am. Not a good use of officer’s time. Meeting w/Island Health leadership on Sep12 to discuss solutions.

There is a really good argument that banning Airbnb has actually increased rental prices in Vancouver.
There's a flood of extremely well presented, well furnished listings with pro photos that are priced by people used to Airbnb rates. So many have come on the market at once ,due to the NDP ban, that they overwhelmed the rest of the market. Other landlords are concluding that this is now "Market Rate" which they then price to match.
No one would see all the competing one beds in the market priced at $3k & decide to price thiers at $2200. They price at market and then tenants, with no other choices are paying the newly defined pricing.
The aspirational pricing has become the norm. Flooding the market with high end listings has achieved the exact opposite of what it intended to do, which is exactly how Government attempts to regulate a free market usually work.
