According to @dealroomco's 2025 Global Index, Paris just took over London as the no.1 European tech ecosystem. France didn’t just talk about ambition…they built the conditions for it 👇
1. Deep public capital (BPI)
2. Policy with teeth (Tibi, France 2030)
3. State-backed risk infrastructure
The UK, meanwhile, talked a good game but blinked at boldness. Too many reviews. Not enough risk. If we want to lead again, we need to:
1. Deploy capital with conviction.
2. Back frontier, foundational technology, not iterative fluff.
3. Make sure the Mansion House Accord money goes to the VC’s who will deploy it well, not to PE, institutional investors without experience, or just the usual suspect VCs.
Act like the future is ours to lose.
@7pcventures backs founders building deep tech out of Europe. The talent is here. Time for policy to catch up.

The best founders know that clarity wins.
Investor updates should be concise. No fluff—just the numbers that matter and any clarifying context.
1. Monthly cadence.
2. Key metrics upfront.
3. Bad news early, no surprises.

Watching Nigel Farage being smacked down about Brexit by @campbellclaret on #bbcqt 👌🏽extremely enjoyable.
Had an annoying login problem with @freetrade (my issue, not theirs). The customer support was awesome and I’ve even upgraded my plan. Any company making it hard for users to contact them is just leaving money on the table. Thanks to Rick at Freetrade!
The headlines about Victoria Starmer’s donated clothes and “cash for access” are super misleading. Technically there was a breach, but they more than followed the spirit of the guidelines. The intent here was to be as transparent as possible. Very different to the last 14 years…
Incredible job by @laylawright_ for this @BBC documentary “America’s New Female Right”. She manages to befriend and probe skilfully. God how sad and sinister some of these stories are.

One reason to love the Olympics is that people who believe diversity isn’t our strength have to watch day after day as diversity is absolutely our strength.
Incredible work from the Crucible team. Huge congrats @GeorgeBevis. Exciting times ahead :)
Anyone who has spoken to me in the last couple of years will have heard me bang on about Crucible. Our first school opens in a few months. Do read the blog and I'll try to answer any questions on here.

Wondering what do do this weekend?
Sit down with a cuppa and read our fancily named 'manifesto' outlining the technologies and human challenges we believe important in the next decade.

@krishgm it was misogyny. Gaza may be the excuse but a bunch of men shouting abuse at @jessphillips and the treatment she and her staff have received during the campaign is so blatantly rooted in misogyny, not care for the Palestinian people.
I'm at @CES next week - who in my network is going? DM me - I'd love to catch-up.

Our CEO, @JoshuaWohle sat down (virtually) with former @udemy COO, Frank Visciano in this week’s latest episode of #AskWhy. Key takeaways:
- “Knowing” an outcome before starting a project is limiting. Starting from a humble position of not knowing is more than half the fun because it enables you to discover things without preconceptions. The essence of learning.
- People who have multiple successes tend to really reflect on what they have learnt. There are plenty of people who just struck lucky and they don’t acknowledge that, then just try and replicate the “playbook” without thinking too deeply about things.
- Being surrounded by “smarter” people is an amazing opportunity to learn from them, if one can park their fear and ego.
- The value of everyday learning, from videos, podcasts, articles, and newsletters.
A brilliant conversation with a deep thinker who consciously prioritises continuously learning in his life.
We hope you enjoy the episode as much as we did! (links in the replies!)
