The lack of development in many states in Nigeria is the largest contributing factor to the high cost of rent in Lagos & Abuja.
If Lagos wasn’t so densely populated, these outrageous rent prices won’t exist, people are renting 3 bedrooms for 300k annually at Akute.

There’s no difference between JD Vance and Yemi Osinbajo. Politicians are the same everywhere.
Vance is confronted by the emotional husband of a soldier killed in Iran War and acts like he had no idea anyone ever died:
Q: It's a hard price to pay. There's a failure in the leadership. How will the leadership be held accountable?
Vance: If there were failures... This is the first time I've heard of this.

Slide 1:
Protests around Europe because life is unaffordable for their citizens.
Slide 2:
Europe is sending millions of dollars in 'aid' to Nigeria.
The clash between these two images looks like a contradiction. It feels like a direct betrayal of domestic needs — why would the EU be sending millions of dollars to help poor Nigerians when its own people are struggling to buy food?
But in reality, it makes perfect sense.
Foreign aid is a strategic, exploitative business transaction, not a charity donation. It is a calculated way to take while looking like you are giving.
1. The 'Aid' Money Never Really Leaves Europe
For the most part, "aid" money never actually leaves the donor's ecosystem.
Most aid packages explicitly mandate that the recipient nation must use the funds to contract European firms, purchase European goods, or hire European consultants.
The money stays in the West, acting as a back-door economic stimulus package to support European corporations and domestic industries.
They are essentially funding themselves.
2. The Legal "Buy-In" Fee for Foreign Natural Resources.
More importantly, that aid money is the ultimate diplomatic entry fee. High-level envoys use the promise of humanitarian aid to buy political favors, exclusive slots, and massive leverage.
Behind closed doors, the exact same diplomats negotiating poverty relief are locking down exclusive access to Nigeria's untapped solid minerals and lithium mining rights.
There is absolutely no contradiction between hungry Europeans and European aid flowing to Africa.
The 'aid' is a complex political capital boomerang.
The money leaves Europe disguised as a charity, brokers lopsided mining deals with local politicians, and returns straight back to Europe a hundred times heavier — bearing Nigerian raw materials like a reverse Santa Claus.
So when you hear that Africa got aids from Europe, "ma fọ" — for Oyinbo is doing a magic trick, using sleight of hands to move resources worth billions of dollars from your mines to their 'first world' country.
And after billions in aids, you'll be poorer, and they'll be richer.
But again, ma fọ — it's because "Africa is so corrupt".🤡🤡🥱🥱

You may not have noticed it, but the language of reportage is a fundamental contributor to why there are less nominally 'poor' people in Europe than in Africa, for instance.
You can't afford food in Africa? You're poor.
You can't afford food in Europe? The cost of living is unaffordable.
You're not poor; you're simply struggling to afford the cost of staying alive.
Notice the difference?
The language they use often minimizes deprivation in the Global North while amplifying its stigma in the Global South.
And there's another subtle distinction: being unable to afford "groceries"s doesn't sound nearly as damning as being unable to afford food.
One describes a financial inconvenience. The other describes deprivation at its most fundamental.
Same struggle. Different framing. Different dignity.
Don't get me wrong, we do have a poverty problem in Africa, but the language that reports it framed it as our identity, while reporting the same circumstances as an inconvenience for others.
But we will rise.
We will take control of both our destiny and the narrative.

Imagine you could invest in an asset class that averaged 44% IRR, and its returns were uncorrelated from stocks, bonds, and commodities. The only catch: your payout depends on strangers’ deaths.
Welcome to life-settlement investments.
Last week, a story broke about Apollo "betting on the longevity of senior citizens by acquiring illegal life insurance policies and funneling the payouts through shell entities."
Apollo’s fault, surprisingly, wasn’t betting on the life of an older person. It was betting on the life of an older person in the wrong way. After reading about the Apollo case, I went down the life-insurance-market rabbit hole, and what I learned was fascinating.

The Igbo apprenticeship system is no longer as effective as it used to be. Not because the system doesn’t work, but because people have become too greedy.
I’ve heard similar cases where a boy serves for 5 to 10 years, and when it’s time for settlement (maybe a shop and goods or 10 million naira), the Oga looks for a way to set the boy (or boys) up and not pay them a dime.
This has been going on for a while now. Go to the east and you’ll see that boys are no longer going into trade as they used to. This poor management of the system really needs to end.
Above all, love God.

I didn't go to college until I was 30. This gave me a chance to see it with the perspective of an adult.
One lecture in Industrial Psychology, in particular, I will never forget.
The professor spoke about how an effective job description focused on concretely measurable tasks, not vague instructions, or characteristics.
For example, "maintain an 85% or greater average on customer feedback surveys", instead of "be cheerful and upbeat", or even "interact positively with customers".
This means that goals are clear, and performance is measurable. A job is to do something, not be something.
Once some of the students had wrapped their minds around this concept, the professor decided to do a class exercise.
He asked the female students to come up with a job description for "husband". At first, this went fine. The girls noodled around a bit with things they wanted their husbands to be (tall, etc), but he was able to gradually steer them towards describing what they wanted in terms of actions.
But then he asked the male students to define a wife in the same way.
And all the girls became upset. Some of them had full-on meltdowns.
Every single thing that a male student wanted, or expected, from his hypothetical future wife was sexist, oppressive, old-fashioned, misogynistic, patriarchal, etc.
They were literally screaming. Some of them in tears.
And I realized something pretty quickly. It wasn't the actual, concrete responsibilities of the female role that they objected to.
It was the idea of there being a female role at all, with any attached responsibilities.
These women didn't want to be wives. They wanted to be pets.
What's a pet? Well a pet is not a wife, or a friend. A pet is a creature of instinct, which you bring into your home because you like how it naturally behaves.
You get a cat because you want to behave like a cat, and do things a cat naturally does, like play with string, and purr when you pet him. If he's smart, he'll adapt to you somewhat, but he doesn't have responsibilities other than "be a cat".
If you get a wife, you get a wife so she will do things for you, specific things that are the responsibilities of wife, like care for your home, bear and raise your children, cook nutritious meals so you don't have to eat processed slop, look after your emotional well-being, and so on.
These girls didn't want to be held responsible for those things. As married women, they might have anticipated doing some of them, but only some of the time. Only when they felt like it.
The cat chases the string if and when it wants to, not because chasing the string is its job.
These young millenial women didn't realize it, but they wanted to be pets. And that's what they were in their college relationships. They hung out with guys when they wanted to, had sex with them when they wanted to, broke up with them for someone new when they wanted to.
Their relationships had no element of reciprocal responsibilities. They were perfectly at home with the idea of men having responsibilities to them, but they would repay those men if they chose, and how they chose, not how the men actually wanted.
And as I've said twice already, someone you have responsibilities to, but who has none to you, is a pet, or a child.
Since our ancestors, in a moment of foolishness and weakness, allowed women to vote, it is no longer legal to dole out the corrective spankings a great many of them both need and read pornographic novels about.
Therefore, the corrective measure, for any man who finds himself with a pet instead of a wife, is to withdraw from any husbandly duties and start actively searching for alternatives.
This can either result in a correction of the behavior, or the end of a relationship that offers no value. Either is acceptable.
This may strike some of you as dishonorable, but there is no honor in keeping a broken pact, or in serving those who despise you.
Men must have the pride and self-worth to say "I will be honored and respected, or I will depart to a place where I can be, even if I must be alone there."
Men must honor and respect themselves.
