Dilgesh, a resident of Qamishlo, told RIC: "We came here today to celebrate our heritage and our rights. The new government in Damascus has denied what is rightfully ours. So today, we came to make a statement; what is ours, we will take. Be it by force or by peace. We are not seeking war, we are not separatists as they claim.
What is rightfully ours we claim; our heritage, our history, our tradition. This is something they cannot take from us. The 21st of March is our day, […] the day of revival. For us this is something that we consider holy. […] If it costs us our life that is okay, that is acceptable. It's something that we have to do."
