For everyone asking, I’m okay but really sad.
I live on campus. For hours it has been incredible quiet frequently punctured by helicopters and sirens.
My wife and kids are finally on their way home nearly 7 hours stuck in a library campus, sheltering in place. They are safe.
Today I read an assignment from a student who lived through a school shooting in high school. I worry about her and all my students tonight, still huddled in classrooms and basements.
My deepest sorrow for the families and loved ones of those we lost today. And my thoughts with all those who remain in the care of my amazing colleagues at the hospital.
It’s all so hard to fathom until it happens to you and your community.

NOW: Possible Ebola exposure in Manhattan walk-in clinic reported.
Preliminary reports say that two patients from Madagascar with possible Ebola symptoms arrived at the location, with three other patients possibly exposed to Ebola, if confirmed, while waiting in the lobby.
Nobody is allowed in our out of the facilities as a precautionary measure while investigation is ongoing.

My family and I went to see a show in the cultural district. $35 to park. My dad paid $40. These are city garages, not street lots.

We have a new pre-print on #Oropouche virus! Recent evidence suggests this emerging #bunyavirus may be associated with #verticaltransmission. Using ex vivo models of the placenta, we found villous trophoblasts are permissive to infection with the #prototype strain BeAn19991.

What I envisioned PIs do when I 1st got into science: read/write papers, discuss science w/ students, teach & prepare lectures
What PIs actually do: edit biosafety/animal protocols, manage lab finances, solve HR problems, write/grade exams, write reference letters, review grants
My kids candy haul this year: tons of KitKats and Twix.
Almost zero Reese’s, Snickers, Milky Way. Not many skittles either.

Big loss for the virology community!
Mourning the loss of Dr. Diane Griffin, who passed away on Monday.
Dr. Griffin was a founding member of @CMM_JHU and chaired our advisory board. A distinguished virologist, she was an elected member of Natl Acad Sci and Natl Acad Med. We remember her with gratitude.
There are either no charging blocks or there are 5; there is no in-between.
Now, if I could only find a charging cord….
Has science Twitter migrated somewhere else? Bluesky was tried for a while. Is there something better? I miss the OG #scitwitter community
