Veterans around the country knew it was taking far too long to process CHAMPVA applications, and that meant delayed coverage for their loved ones. We listened, and now the application backlog that caused so many unnecessary delays has been wiped out.

Asked Grok, "are there any similarities between the 3I/Atlas object and the craft in Rendezvous With Rama related to size approach and trajectory?"
The reply:
Yes, there are several intriguing similarities between the interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS and the alien spacecraft Rama from Arthur C. Clarke's 1973 science fiction novel *Rendezvous with Rama*, particularly in terms of size, approach to the solar system, and trajectory. These parallels have been noted by astrophysicist Avi Loeb and others, often in the context of speculating about 3I/ATLAS's potential artificial origins, though mainstream science views 3I/ATLAS as a natural object. Below, I'll break down the key similarities based on available data and discussions.
### Size
Both objects are exceptionally large for interstellar visitors, on the scale of tens of kilometers, which is rare and fuels speculation.
- Rama is depicted as a massive cylindrical spacecraft measuring 50 kilometers in length and 20 kilometers in diameter, designed with artificial gravity through rotation.
- 3I/ATLAS has an estimated nucleus diameter of around 20–24 kilometers (with some early estimates ranging from 5–25 km, depending on albedo assumptions and outgassing effects). This makes it significantly larger than previous interstellar objects like 1I/ʻOumuamua (about 0.4 km) or 2I/Borisov (under 1 km), and Loeb has explicitly compared its scale to Rama's, noting that a 20-km size "is not far from the maximum size" envisioned by Clarke for an artificial vessel.
### Approach
The way both objects enter and are detected in the solar system shares conceptual parallels, as unexpected visitors from interstellar space prompting scientific scrutiny and interception proposals.
- In the novel, Rama is first spotted in the 2130s by a fictional asteroid-tracking system (Project Spaceguard) as it approaches from the direction of the constellation Leo, initially mistaken for an asteroid before its artificial nature is revealed. Humans launch a probe and later a crewed mission (the spaceship Endeavour) to rendezvous with it near perihelion.
- 3I/ATLAS was discovered on July 1, 2025, by the ATLAS telescope while near Jupiter's orbit (about 670 million km from the Sun), approaching at high speed from the southern celestial hemisphere. Like Rama, it has sparked calls for close-up study, including Loeb's proposal for a SpaceX CubeSat or redirecting NASA's Juno spacecraft to intercept it (e.g., a thrust maneuver on September 9, 2025, for a flyby in March 2026). Commentators have drawn direct analogies, noting that 3I/ATLAS's "obscure detection angle" and rapid inbound path evoke the novel's setup of an interstellar intruder inspiring exploration.
### Trajectory
Both follow unbound, hyperbolic paths through the solar system, using the Sun for a gravitational slingshot before exiting, which is atypical for solar system bodies and suggests extrasolar origins.
- Rama's trajectory is hyperbolic (eccentricity >1), entering the solar system at high velocity and passing close to the Sun (perihelion inside Mercury's orbit, around 0.3–0.5 AU) before a slight course adjustment that raises questions about intent. It's described as "plunging" toward the inner solar system, possibly targeting it deliberately in the story.
- 3I/ATLAS has a highly hyperbolic orbit with an eccentricity of 6.2 (higher than ʻOumuamua's 1.2 or Borisov's 3.6), entering retrograde (opposite to planetary orbits) and nearly aligned with the ecliptic plane. Its perihelion is on October 30, 2025, at about 1.4 AU (210 million km, just inside Mars' orbit), after which it will pass 0.2 AU from Mars, 1.8 AU from Earth, and 0.33 AU from Jupiter before exiting. Loeb highlights this as anomalous, suggesting it could be "aiming at the inner solar system by a technological design," much like Rama's targeted plunge, and contrasts it with natural processes that wouldn't favor such a precise, fast (around 60 km/s) inbound path.
### Additional Context and Differences
While these similarities have inspired titles like "Rendezvous with 3I/ATLAS" in Loeb's writings and media discussions, they stem partly from Loeb's speculation that 3I/ATLAS's size and path make a natural origin improbable (e.g., a 1 in 10,000 chance for such a large object), echoing Clarke's theme of an artificial visitor. However, differences abound: Rama is unambiguously artificial and cylindrical with no cometary activity, while 3I/ATLAS shows a coma, tail, and high CO2 content, consistent with a natural comet. Its retrograde motion and lack of a prominent tail initially added to the "weirdness," but recent observations (e.g., JWST data) confirm natural behavior. Forums and articles note that, unlike the explorable Rama, 3I/ATLAS's speed makes a full "rendezvous" challenging with current tech.
Overall, the resemblances are more thematic and speculative than exact, blending real astronomy with sci-fi inspiration—Clarke himself might have appreciated the nod, as the name "Rama" was considered for ʻOumuamua.

I just got off a long phone call with the police officer in this photo who responded to the swatting call to my home last night.
He was so upset.
We both acknowledged how the situation could have gone terribly wrong, for both of us.
He also informed me that 2 ambulances, a fire truck, and nearly every cop on duty that night in the entire county was staged or rushing to stage at our home.
Although it was scary for us, it was also absolutely terrifying for the police force in Western North Carolina as well.
I want to commend the officer who calmly assessed the situation under extreme stress, his level head saved lives.
I have also learned some astonishing information around the 911 call that I cannot share.
We are safe. We will be protected.
Thank you to all who voiced concerned for us today and cared enough about strangers to share our story.

Diplomatic progress demands facts, not fiction. Witkoff's mission achieved its objectives efficiently and on schedule. The data speaks for itself: direct engagement with Putin, advancing ceasefire implementation, and measurable steps toward regional stability.
Media outlets focusing on manufactured controversy ignore the metrics that matter. Real diplomatic success is measured in outcomes: reduced tensions, established channels, and verifiable progress on security agreements.
Professional diplomacy operates on results, not rhetoric. When negotiations deliver concrete progress, that's what matters to global stability.
Accountability in international relations means tracking actual achievements, not chasing headlines.
