Akie Abe, wife of former Japanese Prime Minister (late) Shinzo Abe, and Tomohiko Taniguchi, Chairman, Nippon Kaigi met Dattatreya Hosabale, Sarkaryavah (General Secretary) of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at Keshav Kunj, the RSS office in New Delhi.
The meeting featured a cordial and substantive exchange of views on strengthening Bharat–Japan relations, with particular emphasis on civilisational bonds, cultural cooperation and people-centric initiatives.
Both Akie Abe and Dattatreya Hosabale will explore avenues for collaboration in these areas.
Akie Abe, Chairperson, Foundation for social contribution and Tomohiko Taniguchi, Chairperson Nippon Kaigi, a prominent Japanese non-governmental organisation interacted over an hour, reflecting a shared interest in deepening engagement between the two countries.
The RSS leadership, Foundation for social contribution and Nippon Kaigi delegation agreed to strengthen the cultural ties between Bharat and Japan.

It was an honour to host Mrs Akie Abe for dinner at our home in Delhi yesterday, along with my mother, Chairperson Emeritus of the O.P. Jindal Group, Smt @SavitriJindal ji, and my wife and Chairperson of the Jindal Foundation @ShalluJindal_.
Her late husband, former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, did more than almost anyone to bring India and Japan close. He saw the possibility in that friendship long before it became conventional wisdom, and much of what the two countries build together today rests on foundations he laid.
A warm and memorable evening, and a reminder that the strongest ties between nations are usually built by people who genuinely like each other.
