Today I’ve appointed Keith Bristow, former head of the National Crime Agency, to carry out the independent investigation into last week’s escape from HMP Wandsworth. The Terms of Reference have been agreed, and I have asked for the findings promptly. gov.uk/guidance/independent-…

It was an honour to meet Cheryl Korbel today and confirm our plans to give judges the power to require offenders to attend court and face the consequences of their actions.
Criminals shouldn't be allowed to take the coward’s way out by refusing to face their victims in court.
I stand with Cheryl Korbel in her campaign to make vile offenders like her daughter’s killer hear their sentences.
Today, we’re changing the law to make that happen 🧵
ALT Prime Minister Rishi Sunak meets with Cheryl Korbel, the mother of 9 year old Olivia Pratt-Korbel who was shot in her home last year, and she was awarded a ‘Point of Light’ award.

A Whole Life Order will now be the expectation for murderers where the killing involves sexual or sadistic conduct.
This important law change will ensure that the worst of the worst can now expect to spend the rest of their lives in prison.
❝It’s my top priority to keep the British public safe – and I will do whatever it takes to make that happen.❞
Today Prime Minister @RishiSunak announced changes to sentencing laws to take violent offenders off our streets.
Here’s how ⬇️

Not just a venue, also a family home. The owners, the Montgomery family, lived at the Court until fairly recently so you will see many personal mementos and photos in the various rooms. The family still lives locally and also runs the estate farm.

Having had 100 days to reflect, it now turns out that slid Truss thinks she was brought down by “left wing economic establishment”
Or as everybody else calls it “the market”
Which oddly I’d never thought of as being especially left wing?
I have written for the Sunday @Telegraph about what happened during my time in Downing Street and the lessons I have learned… 👇🏻

It was fantastic visiting Brentwood County High School in Essex yesterday. The young people I spoke to there told me how the brand new facilities have really brought their learning to the next level. I'm proud to be part of a government committed to modernising the school estate.

Please take 2 minutes to watch the attached video. A £25m state of the art recycling plant destroyed in minutes by a battery incorrectly disposed of in mixed recycling. Please don't put old batteries in mixed loads of material.
This shocking footage from our Altens recycling centre in Aberdeen shows just how quickly a fire can take hold. It’s likely that this fire was caused by a battery that a resident had accidently put into their bin. Please #recycle batteries responsibly. bit.ly/3B6lUtY
