There’s a scene from the 1960 film version of The Time Machine that has been haunting my dreams of late.
In the film, the Time Traveller (Rod Taylor) has traveled almost a million years into the future, expecting that when he arrived he would find an advanced civilisation marked by the pursuit of learning. Instead, he finds the Eloi, a race of simple creatures in togas who are bred like cattle, and eaten, by the subterranean Morlocks.
In the film’s most harrowing scene, he’s taken by one of the Eloi to a centuries-old library housing the last books in existence, which crumble to dust in his hands.
“What have you done?” the Time Traveller demands, as the dreams of centuries turn to ash. “Thousands of years of building and rebuilding, creating and recreating! A million years, the sensitive men dying for their dreams, for what? So you can swim, and dance, and play.”
In the last couple weeks I see a lot of men on this platform arguing with a straight face that we should let AI generate our writing for us, that it’s the future, that there’s no fighting it. And I need you all to know that THIS is the ultimate end of a world in which everyone has machines write for them. There will be no more thinking, no more creative expression, no more art or literature. It’s what C. S. Lewis called “the abolition of man.” We will be no different from cattle and our libraries will turn to dust.
When ease and entertainment become the highest good, it’s not shocking that people will find clever ways to avoid work and study. But nor should it be surprising when the ultimate fate of the Eloi becomes our own.

As a Greek, I was introduced to Homer almost as soon as I learned to read. His epics are among the first great works we encounter at school, and they remain a living part of our cultural consciousness.
Given that, I really don't care whether Christopher Nolan has remained completely faithful to Homer or has taken creative liberties.
What truly matters is that he has brought Homer back into the world's imagination. If his film encourages people to return to the Odyssey, discover the Iliad, or venture further into the treasures of classical literature, then it has already accomplished something extraordinary. Any work of art that sends people back to the source has, in my view, made a genuine contribution to culture.

Lets cut Welfare to fund Defence.
Here's the top claimants we need to deal with.
Amazon, Google, Starbucks, Meta, Apple, Shell, BP, Vodafone...
All these companies pay ZERO tax in most if not all year's.
They should be paying tens of billions.
End this unaffordable Welfare.

There’s more drama, human interest and authentic storytelling in this Ring footage of a cat saving a chicken from a fox, than in Hollywood’s entire output over the last decade.

NEW: A convicted money launderer has operated at the highest level of UK politics for a decade. Why? Because Farage has enjoyed almost total impunity from the UK press.
In my new piece for @thenerve_news, I expose the decade of denial that’s enabled him to act with impunity

A research into cat behavior shows that domestic cats regard humans as social peers rather than superiors, often perceiving their owners as large, awkward kittens.
Far from being aloof or defiant, a cat’s apparent indifference stems from a profound interspecies mismatch in social expectations.
As anthrozoologist John Bradshaw explains, cats—unlike dogs—never evolved to recognize humans as dominant leaders or authority figures. Instead, they filter all interactions through an exclusively feline framework. Behaviors like kneading on your lap or licking your hair are not mere displays of affection; they are the same grooming and bonding rituals cats reserve for close kin or pride members. In their eyes, we are simply enormous, somewhat clumsy fellow cats who require inclusion in the group.
This absence of hierarchical deference accounts for cats’ frequent disregard of commands or household rules. Treating us as equals, they follow cat-to-cat social protocols in every encounter. The “gifts” of dead prey on the doorstep or constant shadowing around the home are acts of care toward what they see as a big, furless, rather inept companion.
Recognizing this mindset transforms the human-cat relationship from one based on authority and obedience to one of mutual companionship. It turns out that while many owners believe they have domesticated their cats, the cats themselves are quietly convinced they are patiently tending to their oversized, adopted family members.

The scandal of charging students RPI (Retail Price Index Inflation) on their loans to be trained to work in the state sector
Then Government only uses CPI (Consumer Price Index) for pay awards
Both cut into future earnings & affect those paying off all their loans the worst

If I’m the officer who emptied my clip into Alex Pretti’s back, I’m starting to get worried.
Also we need to know who the agent is who clapped and celebrated as his colleague fired 4 extra shots into his lifeless body. He should never work in law enforcement again.
Agents are about to find out how far they can take Stephen Miller’s promise that they have absolute immunity.

I first started diving into this fascinating rabbit hole when I came across another Canaanite goddess of sacred ecstasy, sexuality and fertility, Qadesh (or Qetesh) standing on a lion in the Egyptian Museum in Turin this October. She's often depicted nude, riding along on her lion (like Durga), holding snake & flowers, sometimes syncretized with Hathor, and often shown with Min and Reshep.
It is utterly fascinating to see the shadowy civilisation, literature and mythology of the Canaanites influence not only the theology of the ancient Israelites, but also that of Egypt. We are encouraged to think of these cultures are being separate but of course they are rubbing up against each other, and influencing one another, despite attempts on both sides to remove the “other” from their narrative. In many cases these old Canaanite gods and goddesses are quite literally demonised- hence the Satanic Christian Lucifer & Beelzebub.
This is a new world for me and I'd love some suggestions for further reading.
