Yet another London failure.
I am a member of a group who advises people about what to do and where to go in London.
A young American woman in the group had an appalling experience at the weekend. She went to the theatre to see a musical.
Her friends wanted to go out afterwards but she preferred to go back to the hotel.
She could not get a black cab and did not want to risk a minicab. So she took a rickshaw. You know the type: lit up like Blackpool illuminations and blaring out music.
She thought they were licensed. They are not: the mayor has been talking about that for years but it won’t be in place until 2027.
Anyway, just her and one “not English” guy cycling.
As they came closer to the hotel she said they ended up in a really quiet alley. He stopped and suggested taking her photo using her phone. She refused. She did not want to hand over her phone and did not feel safe. They had quite an argument about it. She said she would just pay and walk the rest of the way.
Then two other men appeared. Now she really was scared and offered the £30 agreed fare cash. The driver (and the two men) insisted that she pay by credit card.
They started to say that she had to pay double if she paid in cash.
At that point, a couple turned the corner and instantly the two men vanished, the driver took the £30 and she was left alone.
If that couple had not turned up I don’t know what would have happened.
She had a photo from inside the rickshaw and is submitting it to the police today but it is not easy to identify the driver.
This is not the first time I have heard of such a scam. One tourist was told the fare came to £200 because it was “a tour” and not a ride to the restaurant. Despite it being no such thing.

Thames Valley Police have released CCTV after two girls, both aged 14, reported being sexually assaulted by two migrants. The girls were approached by FOUR men they didn't know in Florence Park, before accompanying two of the strangers to Marsh Park, where the first man allegedly raped one girl, while the second sexually assault the other girl in a secluded wooded area.

We now have footage of another private AlbaStar plane, this time in the cargo area of Birmingham airport.
The exit stairs are covered so whatever they are doing can't be seen.
What can be seen are the same private coaches that have been seen offloading migrants in Liverpool, Manchester and other places.
Although its possible these are migrants being deported, If the government was deporting entire plane loads of migrants, why aren't they screaming about it from the rooftops like they did when they deported a plane full of Brazilians?

⚠️ EXCLUSIVE ⚠️
Over the last few weeks, several eyewitness reports have emerged suggesting the UK government is flying migrants directly into Liverpool airport.
The images below are verified and show a Boeing 737-800, registration EC-MTV.
These images were taken by an eyewitness on the tarmac of Liverpool Airport on 9th September.
The eyewitness has stated that an entire planeload of migrants were disembarked from the aircraft and placed straight onto pre-prepared coaches and driven away.
The witness also stated that after the migrants were disembarked, another group of migrants boarded the plane, all in handcuffs.
The second group were reportedly Albanian nationals being deported.
Now here's the scary part.
The Boeing (EC-MTV) is owned and operated by AlbaStar, a Spanish airline which has a contract with the UK Home Office to fly illegal migrants back to France under the 'one in, one out' deal.
However, these 'one in, one out' deportation flights depart from Stansted, nowhere near Liverpool.
Prepare yourself for the next part.
I have personally tracked the movements of this aircraft using flight data and other sources, and on the 9th of September, EC-MTV arrived at Liverpool John Lennon airport from DUBLIN.
Flight data shows this aircraft left Dublin at 8:36am (Irish standard time) and landed in Liverpool at 9:09am on the 9th September.
It then departed Liverpool again at 11:15am.
Later the same day the aircraft landed in Tirana, Albania and then flew back to Stansted.
These verified aircraft movements confirm the insiders information regarding the plane being used to return Albanian deportees after disembarking the migrants from Ireland.
I've checked, and the coaches parked on the tarmac next to the aircraft come from a company which also has a migrant contract with the Home Office.
Just to confirm, I also checked whether AlbaStar normally flies between Dublin and Liverpool - they don't, ever.
So why oh why on God's green Earth is the British government flying migrants directly into the UK from ANOTHER safe country?!

Meet Robert Homans. He served in Afghanistan from age 19.

£100 of diesel at 194.9p a litre.
Sounds expensive enough already, doesn't it?
But here's the bit that really gets me.
If you're an ordinary worker earning around £26,000 a year, you're already paying 20% Income Tax and 8% National Insurance on the relevant part of your earnings.
So to have £100 left in your pocket to spend, you need to earn roughly £138.89.
About £38.89 has already gone in Income Tax and National Insurance before you've even bought the bloody fuel.
Now you get to the petrol station.
You hand over your £100.
At 194.9p a litre, that £100 buys roughly 51 litres of diesel.
But the government wants another cut.
£27.68 fuel duty.
£16.67 VAT.
So roughly £44.35 goes straight into the government's coffers.
Almost 45% of your £100 fuel purchase is tax.
Let's put the whole thing together.
You earned £138.89.
You already lost roughly £38.89 in Income Tax and National Insurance.
You're left with £100.
You spend that £100 on diesel.
The government takes another £44.35 in fuel duty and VAT.
So from the original £138.89 you had to earn, roughly £83.24 ends up being tax.
That's roughly 60% of the money you originally earned.
And that's just getting £100 of diesel into your car.
We're not even talking about Vehicle Excise Duty, Insurance Premium Tax, MOTs, parking charges or anything else yet.
You're being taxed to earn the money.
Then you're being taxed when you spend it.
And when you spend it on fuel, almost half of that purchase is tax again.
How the hell have we got to the point where earning £138.89 can result in roughly £83 going to the taxman before you've even finished filling the car?
Is this reasonable taxation...
I think not. I see it as greed manifest.
