Just because you’re loud doesn’t mean you’re popular. The thugs on Britain’s streets last night tried to shriek and bully us into thinking they had a majority on their side, when the only thing they had on their side was bricks. The rest was noise. They’re a tiny fraction of a country that’s much bigger and more generous than they’ll ever be.

Not only that, they crossover in places! Read the Chronicles first, then Erth Dragons, then UNICORNE (a kind of X-Files for a younger audience)😀

Beethoven and Shakespeare may have produced lots of stuff, but they weren’t distracted by Olympic trampolining were they?

Fascinated as ever by who gets to be heard and who is defined as unserious. Fascinated, I suppose, by the networks of soft power and association, the clique and the gatekeepers.

Money earnt from poetry has to be spent on something that gives pleasure because the poetry gods will get you if you use it to pay the bills.
do you have any default rules for your life? like "no bread" or "always go on 2 dates" something

As part of my regular series on lost positives, I’m happy to report that you can be ‘consolate’ as well as ‘disconsolate’. If you’re lucky, you can also be gruntled, feckful, woeless, and in a state of total array.

Only a small number of young people are prescribed puberty blockers. Those who are often describe them as life-saving. I know the distress the puberty blockers ban is causing them. No matter what happens in court, I will continue fighting for the government to scrap it.

Labour's manifesto promised to "remove indignities for trans people who deserve recognition & acceptance". That entails ending the Tories' ban on puberty blockers. Young people – cis & trans – must have access to healthcare they need. I'll always stand with the trans community.

'Candidate' comes from the Latin 'candidus', meaning 'white'. Roman political hopefuls would don togas whitened with chalk to imply integrity and purity of purpose.

Every day this week, I’m going to post a short extract from #MyDarlingBoy Starting with the fight that begins it all. Two mothers, lifelong best friends, push their way through a crowd at their local pub to find that their worst nightmare has come true. amzn.eu/d/0f5eP3G2

Word of the day is ‘bang-a-bonk’ (19th century): to sit lazily on a river bank and forget the world for a while.
