Two years ago, Cooper Dossey finished one spot shy of keeping exempt Korn Ferry Tour status. It could have broken him, but he dug deep and elevated his game. With 13 top-25 finishes this season, the Texas native and @BaylorMGolf alum has clinched his first @PGATour card for 2027!

In my (biased) opinion one of the best stories of the year: Hunter Eichhorn has officially locked up his pga tour card via KFT. As a reminder, this is a kid who played golf 5 months a year in High School. He lived in the UP of Michigan in a tiny town and would not touch a club for 7months. He grew up in a a middle class family and traveling for big junior events was out of the question. Yet he earned a scholarship to @MarquetteMGolf and became one of their best players in the history of the program. Prior to college he had never even been on a plane. Despite all that, he will be on the pga tour next season. Remarkable and why the KFT is my favorite tour in the world.

Seems like at the elite level the head dipping DOWN in the backswing is super rare? Noticed this watching Hagestad earlier at the Walker Cup. Thoughts? @AndrewRiceGolf @JD_GolfAcademy @drakesmith__

Viktor Hovland was asked at the Tour Championship if coming back to somewhere he’s won before brings back good memories: “It almost pisses me off more because I know that, oh, I used to be able to do that, and now it feels a lot more difficult to do that. “It's not so much that I'm hitting those crazy wayward shots right now, it's just that I know when I'm swinging it doesn't feel quite right. I have to compensate a little bit more than I'd like to, but I'm able to keep the ball straight. As long as the ball is going straight, I know I can score. That's kind of where we are.” Viktor won the FedExCup title at East Lake in 2023. After rounds of 64 and 66 he’s tied for the lead with Ryan Gerard and looking to win his second Tour Championship. @PGATOUR @TOURChamp

Sometimes really good players hit very poor shots. This is from the US Am , round of 16. Weekend warriors, give yourself grace next time you hit one a bit poor 😁

His initial rise to the PGA TOUR was meteoric, but this time Doc Redman proved his toughness to battle back to the game’s highest level. Perhaps the best is yet to come 🚀 Redman won the 2017 U.S. Amateur at Riviera, defeating Doug Ghim on the 37th hole of the 36-hole final. He earned his TOUR membership with a runner-up finish at the 2019 @RocketClassic as a Monday qualifier, bypassing the Korn Ferry Tour from the jump. Redman kept his TOUR card for four seasons but lost it with a No. 157 finish on the 2023 FedExCup Fall. He narrowly missed his TOUR return after a runner-up finish at the 2024 @KFTChampionship, and he took a three-month mental health break in 2025 to decide whether professional golf was still a worthy pursuit. "I just wasn't happy playing golf. I think the tough thing about golf is, especially out here, everyone's so good and if you're not enjoying it, you're not going to get the best out of your game," Redman said of his competitive hiatus. "Then there's almost no reason to be out here just kind of spinning your wheels. And we had just had my son and I think I was just struggling with all the sacrifice there was in being away. So I needed kind of a reset to figure out why I was out here and re-find kind of the love for it. So eventually I realized that, but it took a while." Redman has won twice on the Korn Ferry Tour this season, at the @ChileClassic and Visit Knoxville Open. He leads the Korn Ferry Tour Points List with six events remaining. On Wednesday, he was the first player to be declared TOURBound for 2027. The North Carolina native is headed back to the PGA TOUR!

With the U.S. Amateur at Merion this week, it’s worth revisiting Chris Patton, the winner of the 1989 U.S. Am at the same site. Patton was described in a @usga article as having “the build of a lineman and the touch of a master jeweler.” When he wasn’t riding a tractor on his family farm in South Carolina, he was hitting golf balls across it. Patton was a self-taught player whose family didn’t have the funds for him to travel to the biggest amateur events. He only had enough money to play one big tournament in 1989, so he entered the U.S. Am. It was the first USGA championship for the Clemson All-American. The next year, Patton played alongside defending champion Nick Faldo at the Masters. It had to be quite the pairing, a study in stark contrasts. The debonaire Englishman atop the golf world and the kid from small-town South Carolina with a homemade swing. Patton made the cut and finished T39 to win low-amateur honors. Patton went on to win once on the @KornFerryTour (in 1993) but never did earn a PGA TOUR card. He was one of the more unlikely U.S. Amateur champions, but also one of its most memorable.

From a classic book, “Swinging into Golf” by Ernest Jones and Innis Brown “This I submit, is a positive way to learn golf - to learn what we are doing when we are playing well, instead of worrying about what we are doing when we are playing badly. It affords a definite point of orientation.”

Asked Sam Burns about golf swing and ball striking improvements earlier this year. He said a big unlock for him was learning not to be too picky about his move. Keep an eye, but don’t stress when things move around a little. “In the last couple of years I had gotten really picky about stuff. Watching swings all the time; thinking of how I used to swing it. I got to the point where I went to my coach and said, ‘let’s make this as simple as possible. Now, I just try to keep it in the rails and if it gets off a little bit I don’t panic.”

Traveling and didn’t see the finish in PuntaCana. Last I looked Clements was up by 4 with 7 to play. Stopped for gas and realized AN ALPS TOUR veteran won!!! Stefona Mazzoli who spent years on the Alps tour and in his first season on DP made a 24-footer to win. Oppo-field events are undefeated Also awesome to see Gordon Sargent finish T2, his final year at Vandy and the start of his pro career have been a struggle. And Ben James finished T4, kid seems to be well on his way to become a fixture on Tour.

Sam Burns, one of the best golfers on the planet, says he's not sure he can tell you the difference between rounds that were 11 strokes different and 1 day apart. Keep that in mind before you start moping around or throwing clubs because last Saturday you shot 80 and this Saturday you're about to shoot 95

What is it about golf that causes obsession? The same hyper focused search that a tour pro goes on to advance their career hits the person trying to break 100 or 90 or whatever mark or goal they have in mind. Fascinating

A reminder of Troy Merritt’s battle with the yips as he has been playing better of late and is currently T4 at JDC.
Troy Merritt is T17 at Procore. But you might not know the 2x PGA Tour winners battle with the yips. I talked with Merritt last month. He was so open about his struggles. I asked if he remembered when they started. And he answered "yes" immediately, and recounted a putt from a few years ago like it happened an hour ago. He told me, no one knew, it looked like he just missed a short one. But he knew. "It felt like a electric shock down my arm". Later that year at the Wyndham he missed a short one so bad that he remembers the crowd around the green laughing. You could tell the memory wasn't every going to go away, hard to forget moments like that. Then it crept its way into long putts. Troy told me he remembers missing a 40 footer like 8 feet off line. Eventually his ball striking couldn't make up for his struggles on the green and he lost his full card. He tried everything. Worked with Joe Toulon from Callaway to find the right putter, Troy credited Joe with helping him immensely. Different putters, different grips till he found something that worked. Merritt talked about the process, said they are way way better, but a few months ago he was in contention at a DP event, and he said being in contention brought back some nerves and some yippy putts. We talked for maybe 25 minutes, he was in Austria at the time, chasing status on the DP. I asked why a guy with 15 million in career earnings was chasing status in Europe and he told me he still wanted to play, loved to see new places in the world and wanted to get back to full Tour status. It was an awesome conversation, insightful, and I hope he shoots 62 today.
