My #NFJS podcast on the future of software is live! With AI, VR/AR, and cell phone watches as everyday fixtures in 2018, what we recently thought of as the future is already here, so how do we define the *next* future? Listen to blog.nofluffjuststuff.com/20… @nofluff @RogueWaveInc

#geekoutee I saved my 100th tweet for Estonia’s 100 year anniversary and the awesome Geek Out conference in Tallinn. Amazing venue, organization, party, and speakers, of course. One of the few great Java-centric local conferences delivers again.

#OpenStackSummit #TyrannyOfChoice Too many ways to make #OpenStack work with #Kubernetes. Too many options for networking, storage, orchestration, package management, testing, and more. Enterprises need opinionated infrastructure, stacks, and support.

#EW2018 In my talk on the state of open source in the embedded space, 20% of the audience is collecting and sending data off device for analytics. Only 6% are testing their security.
#OSS At a recent IT conference: "Do you use any open source?" "No, just normal software." To teams still stuck in 1997: help is available.
#GartnerEA opening keynote highlights GE, Monsanto, John Deere as ecosystem leaders - no coincidence they're all Akana API management users
istio.io might be just what microservices needs to do more good than harm in the average enterprise development team.

#OSCON Spinnaker by Netflix looks like a great way to automate deployment across clouds w/canary testing & rollback. They deploy 4K times/day

#OSCON Looking forward to giving my talk at OSCON next week - "Open Source 2025: The future of application development" Predictions are fun.

#OReillySACon Good to see multiple talks address latency in microservices & serverless computing.Distributed computing fallacy: latency is 0
#lfosls Bruce Schneier - 5.5m new devices connect to the Internet every day, most with poorly written, insecure, non-updatable software

#lfosls Github now hosts 51m repositories. I remember a major VC telling me there would be no more than 10 OSS packages that matter by 2005.
2015 report: attention span drops to 8 seconds in 2013. Analysts say 10x more changing coming in next decade. No time for tweets by 2027.

#appseccali Spoke on continuous security to a full room with lots of good questions. Most surprising: nobody automating security testing yet
iRobot makes it clear: serverless computing in AWS comes with latency and ops challenges. Still good to use, but no free lunch. #awsreinvent
