We had a great time in Fleming County last week! Friday, I was honored to join the ribbon-cutting for the Franklin Sousley Memorial Park. Franklin was a Fleming County boy who helped raise the flag on Iwo Jima and gave his life for this country. It’s fitting that his hometown has a place to remember his sacrifice for future generations. Then, I visited with folks at the Fleming County FFA Tractor Parade, where I got to cheer on the young people who’ll carry Kentucky agriculture forward. Their hard work and pride in where they come from are an inspiration.  Honoring those who served and investing in those who’ll lead next. I was proud to attend the SOAR Summit on Friday in Corbin, where leaders, entrepreneurs, educators, and community partners came together to discuss the future of Eastern Kentucky. From creating good-paying jobs and supporting small businesses to investing in workforce development and attracting new opportunities, SOAR is helping build a stronger future for Appalachia. I loved seeing the folks from Morehead State University, too! During my time as the Governor’s senior advisor, Kentucky has faced devastating natural disasters. We had to learn quickly how to respond, get resources where they were needed, and help Kentucky families and communities recover. Five years ago, tornadoes devastated this area of Cayce. Earlier this week, I got to come back and see the new homes and emergency services being built and celebrate just how far this community has come. As your next Governor, I’ll make sure efforts like these don’t just continue, but grow. Because our job isn’t simply to rebuild what was lost. It’s to help these communities grow, create new opportunities, and build a better future for the people who call them home.

Leah and I are deeply saddened by the loss of Kentucky State Trooper Hayden Phillips today. Our prayers are with his family, loved ones, and fellow troopers as they grieve this tremendous loss. We are grateful for Trooper Phillips’ service and sacrifice in protecting the people of our Commonwealth. May we never forget the debt we owe him and his family.

Always a great time at the annual Calloway County Fish Fry! It was good to catch up with old friends, meet some new ones, and enjoy some delicious food. Thank you to everyone who came out. It takes a village to make a difference in the lives of our kids, and the great people at the Center for Courageous Kids (CCK) are doing their part every single day. This week, I visited CCK in Allen County and got to see firsthand the incredible place they’ve created for kids with disabilities and lifelong illnesses to have fun, make memories, and just be kids. Grateful for everyone who helps make this special place possible!
