Gotta fire this one off before it doesn't happen, but if the Cardinals win this game, they have more wins in Sofi Stadium than the Rams and Chargers combined this season

love the idea of this very chicago man just going "unplug it. it's a computer, just turn it off"
NEW: According to a bombshell report in the New York Times, Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah threatened to walk out of Pope Leo XIV’s AI encyclical launch in May because the pope rejected the idea that machines can be conscious.
Olah’s team then privately lobbied the pope’s advisers “to take the possibility of model consciousness seriously.” Pope Leo XIV held firm.
For months, Anthropic has wined and dined theologians and religious scholars under nondisclosure agreements, hoping they would bless the idea that Claude has moral standing. thelettersfromleo.com/p/nyt-…

If we are to avoid losing our humanity amid a “paradise of machines” invading and conditioning our daily lives, there is an urgent need for education in ethical discernment and the capacity to acknowledge the moral good. This is indispensable if we are to recognize the genuine good that enables human beings to flourish in accordance with their primordial vocation, with unconditional respect for their interior freedom and their sacred dignity. #ApostolicJourney #France vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/e…

Loyola Chicago's Malick Diallo (knee) has been fully cleared for all basketball related activities, per Drew Valentine.
Transfer from TCU who only appeared in one game last season due to injury.
This statement is misleading at best.
Per reporting in the @chicagotribune the @ohareflyer intends to fund their proposed service under the Railroad Rehabilitation and Improvement Financing (RRIF) program.
I am calling on @SecDuffy to withhold any RRIF funds from @ohareflyer until they can produce a business plan of how they will:
1) Build new track with 9 grade separations between O'Hare and Downtown for $2.25 B (the difficulty of that alone is why @elonmusk's proposed hyper loop made much more sense!)
2) Recoup their private investment competing against a $5 @cta blue line fare with the same origin and destination (ORD to within 1000 ft of the Clinton Blue Line)
The RRIF is a great program that offers loans tied to treasury rates, with long amortization schedules, specifically to expand rail service.
These federal funds should go to support existing but financially troubled programs like @GoBrightline service in Florida... not to create a new private service to compete against an existing public service in Chicago.
What drives O’Hare Flyer?
The Private Sector. O’Hare Flyer isn’t asking for government subsidies or handouts. This is a private effort to revolutionize airport transit.
Utilizing existing rail corridors and commercially available technology, O’Hare Flyer will deliver a major upgrade for Chicago: a fast, safe, reliable connection between O’Hare and downtown.
Our project team of experienced operators and innovators from a broad range of industries—rail and other transportation sectors, energy and banking and government —is working with the City, airlines and civic groups and will meet with public officials, businesses, government and community groups to advance the project.

Every human person is planned and willed by God to enter into communion with Him, with others, and with creation. Human dignity does not depend on a person’s abilities, wealth, or position in life, nor on the right or wrong choices made. Instead, it is a gift that precedes and transcends each person, endowed by God as an expression of His unfailing love. #MagnificaHumanitas #GeneralAudience

Uber Freight operated $1.5B + in Freight last Q for a $24 M loss
Uber Freight has never posted a quarterly profit on an operating-income basis… ever
Between poor performance, potentially increased broker liability from recent court rulings ($CHRW), and now data breaches… how much longer is $UBER going to play in the freight space?
What reward justifies the liability risks to the core business?
🔓 Uber Freight Hacked, Feds Called In.
A hacker group calling itself Helix claims it stole nearly 1 million files from Uber Freight, including mailboxes, OneDrive accounts, and accounts-receivable records, posting the claim to its leak site Aug. 6.
Uber Freight spokesperson Sam Hallock said the incident was "identified, contained and remediated" and that the company "promptly engaged federal law enforcement," adding there was "no impact to Uber Freight's business operations, which continue in the normal course without disruption."
Google tracks Helix as part of a broader hacking cluster, UNC6671, that has collected at least $10.6 million in extortion payouts since January.

NEW ODD LOTS:
Trucking is booming again. And the drivers are still unhappy.

The higher rates go, the greater incentives become for bad actors to persist in the market.

For years, owner-operators have been screaming about Highway. FreightValidate. MyCarrierPackets. RMIS.
"The brokers won't load me. The vetting is killing small carriers."
The Supreme Court just made it ten times worse.
Montgomery v. Caribe Transport II. 9-0.
Brokers can now be sued in state court when their carrier kills somebody on the road. C.H. Robinson lost this morning.
Every broker general counsel in America is reading that opinion right now and making one decision:
Vet harder. Reject more. Document everything.
Highway and FreightValidate weren't the problem. They were the warm-up act.
What's coming:
— More identity verification layers
— Equipment photos on every load
— Real-time CSA monitoring with auto-disqualification
— Driver-level vetting, not just MC-level
— Insurance minimums that price out single-truck operators
— Safety questionnaires that look like SF-86 background checks
— Onboarding timelines that stretch from days to weeks
Brokers aren't doing this to hurt you. They're doing it because a jury in Illinois is about to decide whether their $75K surety bond was an appropriate response to a dead motorist.
Wrong answer = nine-figure verdict.
You wanted accountability for brokers. You got it. The bill is being mailed to every owner-operator in America in the form of a thirty-page carrier packet.
Adapt or quit. There is no third option.

OMG, this is the most pivotal moment in trucking history since Deregulation.
It could be an extinction event for 30-50% of all freight brokers.
