I wasn't very active lately - but if there is one tip I can give to anyone who gets started with unreal engine, then its learning what each class is meant to be used for. I am talking about GameModes, GameStates, PlayerControllers and so on.

Ignoring that will make your game's architecture a nightmare to work on. So dig into these and every dev you'll add to your project in the feature will thank you.

I know it's dry and not fun to learn when just getting started. But the moment you think about starting a serious project you have to have a look at this stuff. Otherwise you will not just only make things harder for others, but also for yourself.

If you make a lot of HTTP requests from Unreal, you should try the FHttpRetrySystem::FManager. It allows you to create HTTP request using the same syntax but automatically re-try failed requests with configurable retry delays & counts.

Are you testing your multiplayer game in unreal engine? Make sure to also test conditions where not all clients are joining at the same time! You can easily do that by enabling the "Allow late joining" feature 👇🔥 #unrealEngine #gameDev

Going back to regularly scheduled program. You can use InitializeDependency inside any type of subsystem inside the Initialize override to ensure other subsystem are initialized first. Just make sure you don't create circular dependencies.

Over the past few months I’ve been building internal tooling for Unreal Engine projects. Today, the first public release is live, focused on analytics. Brining both standard graphs and heatmap visualization. Live demo link in first comment. More details soon.

Unreal has a pretty neat built in way of using bitmasks in blueprints with just a few clicks. This enables you to store & track multiple boolean-like states in a compact way. And in the editor, its like a multi-select dropdown thanks to unreal enums 🙌 More details below 👇

Every time I make a new plugin (especially editor ones) I feel like I outdid myself. But this time I am 100% I've reached the peak of debugging experience improvements. Here is a breakdown of the problem and how you can implement it in your project. A thread 🧵

We game devs are all trying our best with the knowledge, skills, time, and tools available to us. Unfortunately, sometimes that's not enough and our games are affected. But knowledge goes a long way, and you can help by sharing this article with your team: dev.epicgames.com/community/…

How can a company be so obsessed with attention to detail in their OS ... ... and yet so incredibly bad when it comes to the UX of appstoreconnect. Really, its the worst.
It’s easy to dismiss Liquid Glass if you’re only looking at the surface. But this shift has been a long time coming. We need dynamic, dimensional systems that scale across screens, platforms, and spatial environments. Don’t make the mistake of thinking this is just a fresh coat of paint. This is a foundational change toward that future.

It is super annoying that a blueprint object is not allowing you to use a lot of typical nodes, like delays, spawning an actor, accessing subsystems or calling functions of a blueprint function library. This is how you can fix it 👇

And whats even cooler: You can also make it return data. This way you can let your chooser, for example, output a float value that depends on the chosen animation, so you can use that value to drive some anim logic in your ABP.

And in case you want to see your chooser live in action, you can btw. even select a debug target and see the decission-making happen as your test your game 🙌
