I'll be at the Beth Chatto symposium next month, on a panel discussing how gardening and food production can continue under a changing climate! bethchatto.co.uk/symposium/s…
Predictions of future climate improve over time, but this shouldn't weaken the Paris Agreement. But in several widespread interpretations of "well below 2°C", it does. New paper with @JoeriRogelj proposes a fix. 🧵
7/ Other interpretations of aspects of the Paris agreement, such as a return to 1.5C by 2100 or net-zero GHG by end of century, reinforce "well below 2C" but don't replace it. Meeting any one of them doesn't guarantee meeting the others.
8/ Bonus note: even very well-meaning people have a habit of abbreviating “well below 2C” to “2C”. I recommend abbreviating it to “well below” instead. Paper at: nature.com/articles/s41558-0…
Do climate conferences actually achieve anything? A lot of people have strong opinions, but we wanted measurements, so we look at how the stock market moves during yearly international meetings called COPs – explanation below, or read the paper here: iopscience.iop.org/article/1…
4) If COPs make markets think about the environment, but not about what a sustainable society involves, we expect a premium for companies considered individually green (which we estimate with ESG ratings from Sustainalytics). We see a strong effect here!
We do a lot of other stuff so I've done a longer writeup here: scienceisshiny.wordpress.com… and the main paper is here again: iopscience.iop.org/article/1…. Thanks to coauthors @setupelz and @dralaaclimate for ushering this through in time!
There's an informative paper by Bossy et al out today, probing the emissions pathways compatible with keeping earth within five different planetary boundaries:

I wrote a little context-setting piece, which you can find here: nature.com/articles/s41558-0…
Open link for the second post, hopefully someone else can provide a link for the first? rdcu.be/eOcYS.
