"Understood. Can I check on you in a little bit?"

"Do you need a hug?"

He would hold her hand securely. His cheeks warmed and darkened, which was rare for him. "Yeah, for sure, Cissie. Wanna go for a run? Or are you more comfortable going by car?"

The food truck owner handed him the bag of tacos with a smile. "Thanks, man." He turns to Irey. "I can't help it sometimes. You're family, among other reasons." He starts walking away from the food truck with her.

"You're welcome, kiddo. I know you don't need to be scolded for defending yourself." He smiles warmly at her. "I know I've not always been there. Went on the run a lot. I'm glad I'm making up for lost time."

He waited as he watched shirt videos on his phone.
