The only thing I see Mayor Frey doing about ICE terrorizing our city is TV interviews. Almost all of the response to protect Minneapolis neighborhoods is being done by neighbors. We don’t need Frey on another podcast, we need leadership. What’s the plan here, what are we doing?
Mpls Mayor Jacob Frey on Fox & Friends: "Look, I may have disagreements with some people that are part of your audience, but I hope that people can trust that I love my city ... this whole chaos that's taking place -- yeah, it's setting us back. My ask is simple: let us have that beautiful rebound."

Amazing how the "the Second Amendment protects us from tyranny" crowd has just swung all the way to "shut up and do what the tyrant tells you or die."

Two months ago Jacob Frey ridiculed his opponent Omar Fateh about stance of vowing to have MPD arrest ICE agents who break the law. Now, four days after ICE murdered Renee Good, Frey still has done absolutely nothing other than use strong language and post strongly worded tweets.
Today is a good day for ICE to get out of Minnesota.

ICE agents aren't Disney villains. They're our neighbors, friends, and loved ones. These immigration and customs enforcement officers are red-blooded American patriots doing a tough job to keep our nation safe. Assaults against ICE are up 1,300%. I stand with @DHSgov.

This regime will kill you, lie about why they killed you, and then wait for the fascist bootlicking "media" to tell their viewers why it's awesome the regime is killing its citizens again.

Why did Jacob Frey delete his electronic communications from the day that MPD collaborated with an ICE action on Lake St in Minneapolis? What did he say? What did he learn? What did he direct? Our public officials should not be destroying the official records of their actions.

I will not be ranking Kaohly Her for mayor of Saint Paul. Asked about the Summit Ave regional trail, she said a bunch of critical nonsense capped by “I will look at the project and reevaluate it.” I agree with Adam: that was such a bullshit answer. yahoo.com/news/articles/st-p…

I am so, so tired of politicians pretending their opposition to bike infra - especially in a case like this, where the NIMBY opponents are literally some of the wealthiest people with the most expensive homes in town - is some sort of brave stand for "equity." Bullshit, indeed.

When pressed on whether Summit needs to be reconstructed - which it clearly, objectively does - Her gave the dishonest little dodge that "all of our streets need to be fixed." See the bullshit? "All of our streets need to be fixed... but let's not fix this one." No thanks.

A new episode of Mill City Hall is up! In it, we discuss conservatism in Minneapolis. Are there "conservatives" here, even if they call themselves something else? What does conservatism look like on the municipal level, and how is it different from, say, the national context?

Based on that definition, my argument is that yes, there is a conservative position in Mpls politics, and conservative candidates for local office. They call themselves other things: "pragmatic," "moderate," etc. But these are dog-whistles to (locally) right-leaning voters.

Especially since politicians like Frey and his allies are keen to call their opponents "extreme" and "far left," I think it's high time to call them what they are in the local context: conservatives. Their political project is to defend and/or return to an old power hierarchy.

A new episode of Mill City Hall is up: millcityhall.com/episodes/20… It features special guest - and actual DFL City Convention delegate! - angela olson. (Apologies for the slow posting - I've been canoeing the Sunrise river and have had limited connectivity.)

Jacob has, since at least 2020 (and the "Jacob, go home" chant) had great difficulty getting outside of his bubble of supporters and having conversations with people who disagree with him.

And the DFL caucus and convention processes are difficult and painful for normal people to participate in, and there are at least some ideas to make them suck less, but it seems like folks on all sides of Mpls politics are unfortunately likely to keep doing them this way.
