The white TFR in 1996 was 1.78 compared to the national rate of 1.98 and as of 2026 it's only down to 1.60 compared to 1.56 nationally, but the white share of the population back then was higher so the share of births to white mothers dropped from 61.5% in 1996 to 51.1% today. The largest declines in white share of births were in Nevada, Massachusetts and Oregon which saw a large Hispanic influx while in New York, Mississippi and DC the white share actually increased.
