New: The Democrat who knows what a blue wave feels like. Tom Perriello is waging an uphill battle in VA-5, but thinks this year's wave will be even bigger than the one when he won the seat in 2008. huffpost.com/entry/perriello…

The big difference between '08 and today: It's driven much more by anger at GOP than any hope in Dems, Perriello says. But he also sees the seeds of new coalitions: "I think there’s a chance this is going to be the first election of the post-Trump era." huffpost.com/entry/perriello…

Asked by @PHirschkorn for an example of a time she voted against her party and it changed the outcome, Susan Collins points to how she organized the opposition to Pete Hegseth. Pressed, she concedes it didn't change outcome (one R changed vote), but she notes it almost did.

There are many reasons to expect a polling miss favoring the GOP -- primarily the idea that low-propensity Rs don't answer polls but will show up to vote. But it's worth remember the last statewide general elections we had in 2025 actually had polling misses favoring Democrats.
Given the conversation about the possibility of a systematic polling miss, worth remembering that it's possible we're about to underestimate Democratic strength (as we've done in recent midterm senate polling cycles)

Polling averages in VA favored Spanberger by 10, she won by 15. In the AG race, they favored Miyares by 2 and he lost to Jones by 7. In New Jersey, the averages favored Sherrill by 4 points and she won by 14.

Potentially big deal here, depending on how much they spend. Both parties have looked at the RNC, which has about $125M on hand, as a potential source of cash late in the cycle.
FLASH: The Republican National Committee and Ashley Hinson campaign are placing coordinate TV ad spending. Start date is tomorrow, 10/15 #IASen

Republican Rep. Andy Harris incorrectly told a reporter they were breaking the law as the reporter and others recorded an exchange with him last night. Harris had just wrapped up a debate with Democratic challenger Dan Schwartz.

I keep thinking about this exchange. Blakeman says he's "created wealth" because of the skyrocketing home prices in Nassau County. The idea that young families are priced out just doesn't occur at all
crazy moment in the NY governor debate: Hochul says she wishes she pushed even harder on YIMBY policies, meanwhile, Blakeman literally *brags* about how his NIMBY policies have made housing so expensive

Both parties now think the GOP spending blitz has had a limited impact so far. But other sources of cash loom. -Pritzker coming in with major $$ in TX, NM and elsewhere. -Dems wondering how much Future Forward can spend. -Rs still have RNC + MAGA Inc $$$ left over.

The question for Ds is whether they have the money & the political enviro to just win majorities, or if they can go for the kind of wins -- like Texas governor or Mississippi Senate -- that could repudiate Trump and fundamentally alter American politics. huffpost.com/entry/democrats…
