What a great post, and Alice is amazing, clearly very talented. Thanks for sharing the footage and Alice's response.
Alice Barker spent her younger years performing as a chorus girl at Harlem’s legendary Cotton Club, dancing during one of the most celebrated periods in American entertainment. Despite all the time she spent on stage, there was something she had never experienced: watching herself perform. The recordings of those performances had seemingly been lost to history, leaving Alice with nothing but her memories of the music, lights, and excitement.
Then, at the remarkable age of 102, Alice received an unexpected gift. Archivists uncovered rare footage from her dancing days, allowing her to see her younger self performing for the very first time. After decades of remembering those moments, she could finally witness them through her own eyes.
Imagine living more than a century, carrying memories of your youth, only to suddenly watch those memories come to life on film. For Alice, it was more than a nostalgic experience. It was an emotional reunion with a younger version of herself and a chapter of her life she thought she would never see again.
Her story is a beautiful reminder that history isn’t always about major events or famous figures. Sometimes, its most powerful moments come from ordinary people rediscovering extraordinary pieces of their own lives.

After nearly 50 years working as a civil servant at RAF Lossiemouth, Kenneth thought he could rely on his pension after retirement. Then Capita tool control of his pension scheme.
Despite retiring in May, Kenneth hasn't been paid a penny by Capita. And he's not alone. Thousands are left without an income by outsourced incompetence.
📣 Pls shout out and share, and tell Capita to pay up or move over ♻️

Whitstable has seen 17 hours of sewage in the last 24 hours.

Many people with Parkinson's experience trouble with sleep, which over time, can significantly reduce quality of life.
Early research has shown that blue light therapy, delivered through a device called PROPEAQ, may help to improve these symptoms: prksn.uk/4ARmLvC

When I met Angela Rayner to campaign for change to overly aggressive council tax debt collection, with its unprecedented rapid escalation to balliffs, she nodded like most politicians do.
I explained it was destructive for individuals, councils and the economy. She listened more then said she'd change it. I was sceptical. Yet a consultation was launched within weeks and delightfully the change announced within 18mths (its in place from next April) - bullet train pace for politics.
I've a rule that if I campaign for a politician (of any party) to do something, and they do it, I say thank you. Its important to recognise it. So thank you so much Angela Rayner for listening and more importantly acting. The changes coming are a great start.
I promised we'd make council tax fairer, and I’m getting on with the job.
Too many working people have seen council tax debt spiral before they had the chance to get help.
That's why we're introducing more time to pay, clearer warnings if you miss a payment and more support from councils.
Thanks to @MartinSLewis and @mmhpi for their tireless campaigning to make this change happen.

The Prime Minister @andyburnham's personal commitment to making dementia a central priority for his Government is clear.
His announcement of £48 million for dementia research is an important step towards accelerating the development of urgently needed new treatments and better support for people living with dementia.
Every day, our Admiral Nurses support families who are crying out for a system that is there when they need it, rather than leaving them to navigate fragmented services alone.
We share the Prime Minister’s ambition to ensure that people living with dementia get the care and support they need. We cannot let this opportunity for progress pass us by.
Amazingly, somehow US politics and enactment seems to be able to reach new lows on a daily basis. And live streaming killing, whatever the reason, adds to the list along with this horrific event.
New York City Mayor Mamdani said he spent two hours on the phone with President Trump and DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin to negotiate for the release of the man who was shot by ICE agents on Thursday, but those negotiations were unsuccessful.
Mamdani also said a 5-year-old was inside the car at the time of the shooting.
DHS said in a statement that officers were conducting a targeted enforcement operation to arrest a man from the Dominican Republic who they allege was living in the United States illegally.

The homeless woman murdered in Central Park was a beloved artist and birdwatcher who made beautiful pieces dedicated to birds. She went by Lee Rogers, but also was known as Elise Bainbridge Hill. Her art was awesome. I hope her life story is shared and not just the grisly details

I’ve had misgivings about what is going on in the autism world for a while. Misgivings about the way that many clinicians are going along with narratives which are not based in science, and which seem to be largely based on the say-so of a few, very influential, activists. I’m concerned about the way that we have accepted that expanding autism to include more people is the right thing to do, and how little time we have given to asking what ‘neurodivergence’ really is - and whether it might not be such a good idea to refer to ‘neuro’ all the time when we know that people tend to understanding neurological explanations as ‘set in stone’.
But the thing which makes me most concerned was how hard it is to talk about it. When pioneering researchers like @utafrith say that they think we need to rethink the autism spectrum, they are treated as if they are in the stocks. Rotten tomatoes, in the shape of internet insults, are hurled. It’s as if the crowd is shouting ‘shut up shut up shut up’. Except not as politely as that.
Whenever I see something like that happening, it makes me more, rather than less, interested. I wonder what they are trying to hide. What is being covered up here? Why is it so important to stop some questions from being asked? For if we can’t disagree, then we can’t conduct science. There is no way to improve our knowledge if we can’t have balanced discussions about why something is happening.
That’s why I wrote my latest book, which will be coming out in Feb 2027. It’s the inside story of how autism has expanded, and why that matters to us all. It's just too important to keep quiet about, even while the rotten tomatoes are hurled.
