Ty Benefield plays with a sense of urgency. He wants all the smoke.
•The 6-3, 216-pound senior came from Boise State: 41 games, 33 starts, 235 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 5 interceptions and 2 forced fumbles.
•First-team All-Mountain West and Mountain West Championship Game MVP. He forced the only fumble of Jeremiyah Love’s college career.
•Father Daved “Buck” Benefield played 13 CFL seasons, one year with the 49ers, and won a Grey Cup in 2000.
•He picked LSU over a handful of West Coast schools and Michigan for the staff, the winning culture and DBU.
•He started slow at Ole Miss, then said the second half turned him up. He has since moved to STAR after Dashawn Spears went down.
“When I’m dead, I come back alive stronger.” McNeese is tonight. Kentucky is next.

#LSU S Ty Benefield has emerged as one of the leaders in Baton Rouge - and it’s easy to see why.
The Canada native is embracing the challenges in SEC play with all focus on Texas A&M in Week 4.
“I want the smoke … It’s why I came to LSU. I don’t care who I line up against.”

LSU safety Ty Benefield on the mentality that brought him to Baton Rouge:
“I want the smoke. I want to go against the best competition. I don’t care who’s in front of me.”
And with Texas A&M up next?
“Not worried about playoffs. Not worried about future weeks. Worried about the Texas A&M Aggies right now.” 🔥
So proud of my nephew.
LSU S Ty Benefield with a powerful statement after the loss to Ole Miss & taking responsibility as one of the leaders on defense.
"Any game that I go in to, I do it for my coaches, I do it for my my teammates and I do it for that little kid that never thought he would be at LSU. And unfortunately, you know, we lost this game. But it's a long season and we got to win out." -Benefield
