The Tories handed Labour a sinking ship, no question.
Labour knew it was sinking when they gleefully took the controls, thrilled at the prospect of power.
What makes them worse than the Tories is the way they steadfastly refuse to acknowledge the cold hard facts of the crisis staring them in the face.
No thought is given to whether or not their new policies might make the Tory-damaged ship sink even faster.
More than anyone, the young needed a government who would steer the ship into calmer waters, where it could be repaired, the sinking stopped and start to sail again.
The opposite has happened. Blinded by the power they do not have the qualifications to hold, they have recklessly accelerated the ship into even stormier waters, and it's sinking faster.
Not content with destroying the career prospects of the young with policies that are killing employers' businesses, they are now set to reinstate the policy that, more than any other, handed wealth from the poor, debt laden young to the rich, share owning house builders.
Help to Buy makes the poor poorer, and the rich richer.
The irony that Labour are simply too stupid to see that is the icing on this poisonous cake of destruction.
The media who have supported it, as well as the Home Builders Federation are complicit in this act of prosperity destruction.
I will never understand the stupidity and/or shamelessness of it.

Reform are £18 million behind Labour over the last 5 years and £40 million short of the Conservatives.
The insane overreaction is quite something. Perhaps some of these MPs don’t even know what their own parties receive in donations…
Two crypto donors have just given reform £72m in the last 24 hours. Yes you read that right.
They want to claim they are playing ‘catch up’ as if any of the other political parties has the same rate of donations. As if this will distract us from the investigations into the money they have taken.
Don’t be fooled - they want to turn the next election into a battle of billionaires not a battle of ideas.
The lords must confirm a cap on UK donors before our democracy disintegrates.

If these claims can be verified (and it's on the word of one whistleblower) the Home Secretary, and all previous Home Secretaries going back years, have some very serious questions to answer.

My position is that gender dysphoria is a real, painful condition and that for some adults, the only way they may feel able to resolve that inner conflict is transition. If that’s the road they choose I wish them long life and happiness and I would vigorously oppose any discrimination against them when it comes to employment, housing or voting rights.
I do not believe children have the capacity to consent to treatments that may leave them infertile and, in some cases, anorgasmic. Multiple studies have shown that gender dysphoria in childhood and adolescence is not uncommon, for gay kids particularly, but it also occurs in, for example, straight girls who hate the idea of becoming women and sometimes, tragically, in children who’ve been abused. The available evidence shows that in the majority of cases, gender dysphoria resolves after the person has gone through adolescence. I am strongly opposed to the experimental treatment of blocking puberty in dysphoric children. I believe trans activists have behaved hugely unethically and irresponsibly in pretending that there is good evidence that these treatments are beneficial (there isn’t), that puberty blockers are completely reversible (there is a mounting body of evidence to suggest they aren’t) or that children are likely to kill themselves if denied blockers (there is no evidence to support this and suicide prevention charities warn against making such statements, due to the very real danger of suicide contagion.)
Of course, not all trans-identified people are dysphoric. Erotic transvestism, also known as autogynephilia, (getting a sexual thrill out of dressing as/pretending to be a woman) has been around for a very long time. I believe lesbians are entitled to exclude straight, cross-dressing men from their dating pools without being accused of bigotry and worse (same goes for gay men with trans-identified women). It’s profoundly homophobic to attack gay people for being same-sex attracted.
I don’t believe anyone, adult or child, is ‘born in the wrong body.’ That is an unfalsifiable, quasi-religious belief. A person may *feel* as if they’re in the wrong body, but humans cannot literally change sex. However they identify, men don’t belong in the single-sex spaces for which women fought so hard.

Wind providing a mere 3% of UK electricity this morning. So we’re having to import 10 times that amount at massive cost. Plus generate almost the same from gas-fired stations expensively kept for this sort of back up. As a result we’re paying an average £136/MWh. Our energy policy is a costly shambles.

The UK government’s national debt has risen above £3 trillion for the first time. It has increased by £2.5 trillion in just 20 years. The government is now paying around £110 billion a year interest payments on the national debt. This is not sustainable. It’s a terrible mess.

To achieve world class social care in the UK it is estimated it would require roughly £19 billion extra per year by the mid-2030s. Here’s a way to pay for world class social care in the UK - Ditch net zero and use the money to pay for social care. The Office for Budget Responsibility estimates that net zero will cost the UK government roughly £20billion+ every year for the next 20 years.

Now today's out the way I'm sure we will be hearing a lot more about how:
- Labour's first two Budgets increased taxes on British workers by £36 billion and £26 billion respectively, pushing the tax burden to an historic high of 38.3% of GDP
- The OBR forecasts 240,000 more people will be unemployed in 2026 than it previously projected - it said this is largely attributable to Labour's employment policies
- The UK unemployment rate was 4.9% as of early 2026, up from 4.6% a year earlier, an increase of 124,000
- Total UK welfare spending this year is estimated at £333.7 billion - up from £315 billion
- The UK is spending £301 million per day just to service its debt interest on Labour borrowing
- Labour promised 1.5 million new homes this parliament. Between 9 July 2024 and 15 March 2026, it had build just 342,100, way off target
- More than 1 million young people aged 16-24 were not in education, employment or training in the first quarter of this year - up 89,000
- The NHS waiting list stands at 7.22 million cases
- When Labour took office in July 2024, just 58.8% of patients were treated within 18 weeks. The target is 92%. By March 2026 it had only reached 65.3%
- Around 100,000 patients are waiting over a year for NHS treatment
- Over the past year, approximately 1.56 million people waited more than 4 hours in A&E - a huge breach of the target
- The outstanding caseload in the Crown Court stands at around 80,200 - the highest level recorded since 2016 and more than double the pre-Covid caseload
- A quarter of all Crown Court cases have been open for more than a year
- There are currently 14,749 sexual offences cases waiting to go to the Crown Court - a 75% increase
- There were approximately 530,640 shoplifting offences recorded in England and Wales over the past year - the highest in the entire time series on record
- There were 41,000 small boat arrivals in 2025
- Of all people who have arrived by small boat since 2018, only around 7,500 (4%) had been returned from the UK by the end of 2025
- Last year the Home Office spent £4 billion on asylum support. This includes £2.1 billion on hotel accommodation alone - around £6 million per day
