Two people have died from black market "ret" peptides (retatrutide). Most of these unapproved drugs come from China. wsj.com/health/pharma/chines…

Peptides are the building blocks of life. How could they be harmful?
Ask anyone who has been bitten by a rattlesnake, cobra or mamba. Peptides make up some of the deadliest toxins on earth.

Abraham Lincoln and Charles Darwin were both born on February 12, 1809. Has there been a day when two people (not twins) born the same day had such an impact on the world?
Congratulations Bret!
🎉🍾 Big thank you to @NIGMS for funding our S10 application to support our Glacios system @KUMedicine! This award will help us support cryo-EM users in the region and beyond.
It is a true team effort with support from KUMC, @KUcancercenter, @thermosciEMSpec, multiple administrators, @CryoEM_PNCC, and so many incredible investigators. Special shout out to @djingham86, Peter Smith, and Michelle Winter for all their help making cryo-EM a reality at KUMC. 🙏

With gratitude @RepDavids for recognizing my career in academic medicine in the Congressional Record. Many thanks!
I have loved each of @amortowles books but #tablefortwo may be the most enjoyable. It is incredible!
Proud to have served @KUMedicine and @KUMedCenter for a decade. I have stepped down as EVC and will retire from KU in June. Can’t wait to see what comes next! Thanks to all.

In Kansas the medical student loan program (free tuition and stipend) guarantees training and work in primary care (and psych and OB) within our state and outside of the most populous counties. There are similar programs elsewhere that, like ours, don’t get much attention. – at Kansas City, MO
Succinct summary of what going tuition-free does for medical schools:
⬆️ selectivity
⬆️ U.S. News & World Report ranking
⬇️ % of students going into lower-paying specialties/primary care

ALT NYU’s matriculating student MCAT range narrowed from 506-528 in the 2017-2018 admissions cycle to 516-527 in the 2022-2023 admissions cycle, and their accepted GPA range narrowed from 3.45-4.0 to 3.62-4.0 in the same time frame. Thanks at least in part for this increased selectivity, their U.S. News & World Report ranking rose from #11 in 2018 to #3 in 2019. In addition, no students in the NYU Grossman School of Medicine’s inaugural tuition-free class, who matriculated in the fall of 2018 and graduated in 2022, matched into family medicine. Three students from the class that matriculated in fall 2019 matched into family medicine in 2023, and the number of students matching into pediatrics decreased from 10 in 2022 to 6 in 2023.
