As Speaker, @MIHouseGOP and I are committed to delivering a record $12,000 per student in our upcoming K-12 Education budget proposal—nearly $2,000 more than @MISenDems’ $10,008 proposal and @GovWhitmer’s $10,000 cap. While @MIHouseDems and @WinnieBrinks settle for half-measures, we're cutting earmarks and empowering local districts—not Lansing bureaucrats. #MIEDU #MILeg

It’s 1:45 a.m., and here’s what’s happening in Lansing: While residents across the state are sound asleep, I’m sitting on the Senate floor watching my Democrat colleagues rush through dozens upon dozens of unvetted bills under the cover of night. Most of these bills never had a single committee hearing or a shred of testimony—neither in the House nor the Senate. Now, because the House has already adjourned, Senate Democrats are forced to pass these bills exactly as they came over, or they won’t make it to the governor’s desk. This isn’t just lame duck craziness—it’s legislative malpractice. No member, and not even staff, truly understands the full impacts of these bills. This isn’t deliberation, and it sure isn’t transparency. It’s pure partisan madness by the Democrats, and the people of Michigan deserve better.

The Senate just passed SB 911 to permanently reduce MPSERS rate by 5.75% and eliminate public school employees' 3% healthcare contribution. This is one of the biggest funding wins for public education in decades. House is expected to concur next week. #mileg #miched #MASAleads

Today, @GovWhitmer signed into law a budget that raids the teacher pension fund and provides ZERO per pupil funding increase for the first time in over a decade. Disgraceful.

Teaching is one of the hardest jobs in this country – and one of the most important. It’s not enough to give teachers praise. We ought to give them a raise.

My bill to end the government-mandated mass flunking of Michigan’s 3rd grade students passed the senate with bipartisan support! Waited four years for this day. Thank you to the new #MajorityForThePeople! – at Lansing, MI

Reflection From Pandemic School Year 1. What should every learner receive during the 1st 4 weeks in August? 2. How will staff create trauma-informed classrooms? 3. What are the needs of learners and how can we structure schools to meet those needs? #edchat
