Additional statement from @AGLizMurrill on our brief filed in #SCOTUS for Louisiana’s redistricting case, Louisiana v. Callais. #lalege aglizmurrill.com/Article/328
🚨Brief filed in U.S. Supreme Court for Louisiana’s landmark redistricting case, Louisiana v. Callais Our Constitution prohibits the sorting of Americans into voting districts based on their skin color – and Louisiana wants no part of that abhorrent system. We have made this argument for years, but the federal courts so far have refused to hear us. So, when they forced us to draw a new majority-minority district, we did so under protest and defended it because the Supreme Court’s backwards precedents permit that district. But I am grateful that the Court has now asked the parties to brief whether this entire system is constitutional. My answer: it is not. Our Constitution sees neither black voters nor white voters; it sees only American voters. #SCOTUS 🔗Read more here: aglizmurrill.com/Article/328

In one of the largest ICE raids in Louisiana history, 84 workers at Delta Downs were arrested. Officials say the workers were hired illegally, mostly to tend to the stables. The race course is also under investigation for illegal hiring. @FOX8NOLA

State Senator @BlakeMiguezLA officially announces he is running for United States Senate against incumbent @SenBillCassidy next year.
Today, I'm announcing my candidacy for the United States Senate. I'm running because the American Dream is worth fighting for - and DC phonies forget that. Bill Cassidy betrayed our state, our President, and our principles. As your next Senator, I won't bend. I won't break. I'll stand with President Trump. And I'll never stop fighting to put America First. Bill Cassidy had his shot. He missed. I won't.

I cast the only NO vote on Louisiana’s $49.3 billion budget—and I want to explain why. The budget includes a $1.6 billion Medicaid expansion funded entirely by the federal government—for now. But with $37 trillion in national debt, how long until Washington shifts that burden onto Louisiana taxpayers? We’re already spending $20.6 billion on Medicaid. If the federal share dries up, we could be on the hook for billions more—with no clear plan to pay for it. That’s a risk I’m not willing to take. At the same time, funding for the LA GATOR scholarship program—designed to expand school choice—was slashed nearly in half. It’s time to empower parents with more options—not fewer. Parents should be the ones choosing the best path for their children—not bureaucrats. I won’t support a budget that puts Louisiana families on the hook for exploding costs while pulling back on educational freedom. We can do better—and I’ll keep fighting to make sure we do.

The Senate President (upon advice of the Senate attorney) has decided the fluoride bill can't be added to this legislation because it doesn't relate enough to the bill to be legal. So it's rejected. #lalege #lagov
In the Senate right now, Sen. Mike Fesi is trying to put his ant-fluoride proposal into a bill about setting aside state funds for addiction recovery. The fluoride bill DIED on the House side. He's trying to ressurect it. #lalege #lagov

House and Senate face a 6 p.m. deadline today to clear out a lot of their calendars. After that, bills that aren't on concurrence or in conference committee face tougher hurdles to pass, needing a two-thirds vote from each chamber to be debated. #lalege

Always remember: All politics is temporary. A permanent majority has never existed. Voter demographics are always changing. Public opinion is always changing. Historically, the voting pendulum has always swung back-and-forth. All politics is temporary.
