The name Phalarope literally means "coot-foot" in Greek. This photo shows these lobed toes which allows the Grey Phalarope to spend the winter month on the high seas and undertake a pelagic migration to its Arctic breeding grounds.
After watching Southwold's Sausage Dog parade set off for a beach walk up to the pier (an incredible din for such a diddy dog), a sea watch from the harbour was rewarded with this delightful storm-driven Grey Phalarope seeking refuge in the calmer waters of the Blyth estuary.
Aurora borealis from Gunton, north Lowestoft, Suffolk, this evening #NorthernLights
Cycling along Lowestoft's north beach seawall early this morning coincided with the arrival of this Yellow-browed Warbler after a night flight over the sea. It alighted in an isolated bush for a few seconds before making for the sycamores on Gunton Cliff #YbWInOff
This Pectoral Sandpiper at Benacre Broad this morning was the highlight of an excellent medley: Cattle Egret, Scaup, Garganey, Curlew Sand, Greenshank, Blackwits, Ruffs and two Clouded Yellow.
The East Atlantic Light-bellied Brents are feeding on sea lettuce on the old sea defence rocks along Lowestoft's North Beach - seemingly immune to the breaking surf in pursuit of the best turf!
East Atlantic Light-bellied Brent is one of the rarest goose populations on the planet. 15 have arrived in Lowestoft from (most likely) Svalbard and proved delightfully tame. With Polar Bears outnumbering humans in the land of snow and ice, they show no fear of their admirers.
.@MrT's journey from the projects of Chicago's south side. Faith, focus and ferocious determination. A childhood hero!
'Cricket', Lowestoft's celebrity Red-footed Falcon, continues to dash and dive within feet of his admirers.
Lowestoft's remarkably confiding juvenile Red-footed Falcon has set up home below a mural of a Norfolk Hawker created by the talented @ATMstreetart next to a busy roundabout adjacent to the gull wing bridge. One of those truly bizarre birding juxtapositions!
August easterlies with a dash of drizzle produced a pleasant migrant mix in a muggy fall. A possible Great Snipe in off at Lowestoft's North Denes - initially giving off a Woodcock vibe when it zoomed over - couldn't be relocated. Thanks to the local weed whackers who searched!
Dolly was a key part of the soundtrack of my childhood. Although written by Barry Gibb, Islands In The Stream shows off her otherworldly voice to great effect. Thanks for the music, Dolly.

ZZ Top...at the top of their game, 1980. Rest in peace, Frank, who held the beat perfectly with Dusty.

Fresh Caspo, possibly from Poland 🇵🇱 or Ukraine 🇺🇦, on this morning's cycle ride along Lowestoft's North Beach.
Whilst admiring a just caught Starry Smooth-hound at Lowestoft's Ness Point, this 1cy Willow Warbler flew in off over the shark after a sea crossing from Scandinavia!
